I need to recover data from a PC after OS reinstall
First off. A note to any advertisers and spammers (you know who you are) who may recommend their software: I Don't want your useless piece of software. no matter how "Amazing" it is. I'm having none of it.
There's that. So, I need a free data recovery program that I could boot off of or works pretty dang well. This HDD has had it's OS uninstalled, been reformatted, OS installed, Configured, and used for 2 hours or so. (OS is Windows XP) I was thinking plug the HDD into another PC and use Recuva but I'm not sure if that's really good for this kind of mess up. It's probably gone at this point, but it's worth a shot. Thanks!
@mayer @oldturkey03 @danj @paperboypaddy Any recommendations? if not, I'm open for others. (Non-sponsored and stuff)
Ugh. Advertisers and spammers will be everywhere on this.

@zerocool278 I'm curious if you know as much about PC's as me... Seems like you would.

Chances are slim, but you can try, just to share my experience... a user also asked me to re image his hard drive, telling me he has backed up all his data, but he had forgotten to copied his PST files.... tried some software like GetDataBack, etc, but sadly, as it has been used for some time... files has been overwritten.

@captainsnowball Sorry I’m not the greatest at recovering drives others than a drive that works and doesn’t have any data deleted. I do know that data that wasn’t written over with 0’s are recoverable, just not sure how.

For XP there was Disk Commander 2005 from Winternals that can help recover lost data. It is available for free but hard to find, I was able to find it and download it to fix a problem with a friend's crashed hard drive. If you are lucky the OS is in the same part as the original OS, if you have not installed apps then there is a slim chance of success.
