Laptop shuts down randomly

Hi, my R430 Samsung laptop randomly shuts down within 1 hr of booting up, even with very minimal usage. No blue screen. Power light is either red or red flashing with amber. Battery has been dead for a while so I just run it on power.

Is it most likely an adaptor problem, or a motherboard short circuit ? Thanks

@hubertwee there are a few possibilities and you want to check all of them. Sure it could be your AC adapter but I would also start considering replacing the battery as well as cleaning the fan and heatsink to make sure that your airflow is not blocked and your laptop shutting down because of higher temps. At this point it does not sound like it is a motherboard issue.

I am having a similar issue. Vents are clear, overheating not the issue. I did just have a power supply go bad on me. Replaced the power supply, no battery present at all.

Machine will power up and shut down within 15 minutes, faster if anything is plugged in(second monitor, USB HD, etc.). I'm thinking it's something in the charging circuit but since there is no battery present I can't think of what it would be.

Machine has operated on AC power only for 6 months + then all of a sudden it shut down and wouldn't power up until I replaced the power supply. Now it will power on for 15 minutes and then shut down.

Well i think It's The motherboard's CPU filtering capacitor (NEC/TOKIN) degrades over time. When Intel SpeedStep (EIST) dynamically scales the CPU frequency and voltage, the voltage sags for a fraction of a millisecond, causing the Embedded Controller (EC) to trigger an instant hardware shutdown. so you should turn off speedstep, but it will cap the cpu power but it will be very usable

Hi,

it might be a caused by overheating - are internal fan(s) are working ok and air vents aren't blocked.

In general, does laptop feels hot especially underneath?
