Your device is still under warranty. Before you do ANYTHING to repair this machine or it's components, internal or external... Call Apple. They will replace anything that is not operating properly that is no fault of yours, but a fault of the equipment.

I totally agree with Brandon on this one. After you get it back, it you see a hint of a problem, take out the Extended Apple Care for an additional two years of warranty.

I found a probable cause and solution! Once I was sure there was no warrantee in affect

The over heating seems to come from the MagSafe connection shorting out due to corrosion build up. I used a hard plastic picker to remove as much of the corrosion as possible.

Also, I took small pieces of tape and pressed them into the recessed area to remove small pieces of metal that had begun to collect to the magnet preventing a tight connection of the electrical points.

When I was no longer able to get good clean points, I found just the MagSafe connector and cord on Amazon for about 10% of the original price!

I used but joint crimp connectors and shrink tubes to assemble everything! Now I keep a small piece of gaffers tape over the recessed area to keep metal bits from collecting to the magnet

I have this problem too. When I got this problem I searched about this and saw many users had this issue. Seems like Apple doesn't care about their faulty charger. I doubt that do they really have a proper engineering team to fix this issue . I felt bad now being a mac user first time by seeing this issue persisting for a very long period of time.

Extending warranty doesn't make sense if you get the same designed charger again, because anyways its going to get the same issue in few days.

Rajkumar,

We have 100's of these chargers in use without any issues do to a poorly designed charger.

What we do see is people wrapping the cords into a knot and then expect the dam thing to work! We glued down the butterflies and put instead a velcro wire wrap and trained out employees to loosely coil the cord.

The other thing we do is make sure the site offices have UPS's so the power is clean and they all have small surge suppressors for the road.

Just to be clear here these same issues are present on every laptop made! From Dell & HP I've seen them fail in the same way - User error!

Ok, if it is user error, please tell me what to do now. A new Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter lists for $79. This is my second MagSafe 2 adapter. I replaced the first one because the cord basically unraveled (I was told by the apple repair guy that I was the cause of the cord unraveling because I disconnected the charger by tugging the cord). I did not note the connection getting warm. This new adapter was quite warm from the beginning but I still could touch it. Now it gets so hot I can not touch the connector! I do not want to revisit cord unraveling so when the charge is complete, I flick the connector with my finger! I frequently clean the magnet because it collects up tiny flakes of metal that prevent any connection. I notice that two of the five connection points have darkened. The gold plating is still there, just under the dark crusty looking stuff. What can I do short of buying a new adapter? BTW, at this point, warrantee is not available and I always use a good surge suppressor.

@scyghost7 - You may need a new DC-In Board What is your exact model?

Also there are many fake MagSafe chargers now flooding the market! So make sure you do get a real one! Best to go to an Apple Store or authorized reseller. The cord issue was one of the tell-tale signs of a fake charger!

Call Apple themseleves and let them know, each apple Mac comes with a 3 year limited warranty, if they won't do anything ask to speak to a senior advisor, if they still does not work ask for a one time repair exception and if nothing please take it another place either certifed for Apple repair or not, I suggest certiefed because I am Apple Repair certifed and this sounds like a hardware failure and you can take it to a local Apple Store and tell them, more than likely we will run some tests and either replace or repair the product at no cost at all, if you have any other questions, don't be afraid to contact me.
