Display not working, touchscreen does..

Long story short my phone was fully submerged in a craft beer for about 3 seconds. I turned it off within a minute or two, took the back cover off and tried to dry it out as best as I could. Took it home within a couple hours and placed it in the closest substance I had to rice which was oats. Left it for 24 hrs before attempting to turn it on. It turned on, but I have no display on the screen, it is entirely black except for when I do turn it on, I can tell its on because a slight glow emanates from the corner when I look at it from a certain angle. The touchscreen feature also works because I can feel the vibrate when I do the pattern to unlock my phone. Now I can't turn it off again and was wondering about replacing components myself, does anyone know which component I might have to replace? I was thinking of taking it apart to clean all the connections with rubbing alcohol and giving it a better dry would this do anything? Any suggestions on how to fix this without getting a new phone? Thanks. And insurance or warranty are NOT options.

I recently got my screen fixed from a bad crack and i dropped it again and now the screen is black but it still works...my first thought was something came loose so i disassembled it and put it back together. i did this several time because the first time i put it together the screen was on but i couldn't tap anywhere...then it wouldn't let me tap or see anything, then it went back to black screen but i can still tap...please let me know if anyone finds a way to fix this problem.

endtrouble, beer? Oats? Okay, enough said. The very first thing I would suggest is that you disassemble your phone. Use the disassembly guide on the bottom of this page. Clean every part with high grade 90%+ and a soft brush. Do not forget the connectors. Check for any obvious damage, missing parts etc while you are cleaning it. Once you have it cleaned, replace the battery and re-assemble. Then re-evaluate for any damage. It is entirely possible that you have a damaged LCD backlight. this would require a new display assembly, but until you have cleaned the damage (oates will not stop corrosion damage:-), anything will be just a guess. Hope this helps, good luck.

Yes, i can help you. First what you wan to do is take of the back and remove the battery. then what you want to do is take the screws out of the phone. pop the black cover off untill you see the mother board. then unhook the flex cable and the power in the lower right of the phone. take the mother board off the display and push slighyly on the shiny metal. it should work. then put the phone back together and see if it works

My display shuts off on its own sometimes but the touchscreen still works (home button vibrates and all). A soft reset brings the display back on but it just shuts off on its own again a couple of hours later. Any advice?

Gosh, sorry I meant to post a question, not a comment

I never comment on these as they never seem to work. The head phone jack died on my phone upon dissembling i found the head phone ribbon cable destroyed. I reassembled the phone so I could use it knowing the headphone jack would not work. After assembly the screen did not work but I could feel the vibration of the phone working. I read this comment about pushing on the "shiny metal" just enough I could feel it collapse and touch the component behind it. I reassembled again and it worked!!!!!!!! I disassembled it again and put in thermal grease to make sure the head could be dissipated to the case. Working.... this was the most help I ever received from a comment on a forum. I want to say thank you soo much and if you can tell me how you learned this I would love it as I like to know the root cause for things. Thanks again!

I had the same exact problem, you probably fixed it or got a new phone already but those of you who are facing this problem, I may have a solution. **I am not responsible for any damage that may occur, use at your own risk**.. What I did was go out and look to buy 99% alcohol (the medicinal stuff), but the most that I could find was 91% and that worked for me so you can try it.. But just briefly from the start, do not turn on your phone if it is wet still, leave it off, do not plug it in or anything, this is tempting but it can ruin your phone for good. So leave it off, atleast until dry, to avoid a short circuit. Leave it in a zip loc bag of uncooked rice or something.. Anyways, I pried off the back cover of my LG g2 (you can find out more about doing this on YouTube or other sources if you're not sure), and then I removed the little plastic plate on top with the removal of I believe 5 or 6 white screws and one small black screw.. Do the same with the bottom few screws.. Watch this youtube video up until about 5 minutes or so if you need help LG G2 Screen Repair & Disassemble: http://youtu.be/hPFBA24dR1w ..... Anyways, disconnect most of the connections you can find, and take a cotton earpick and dap it in your alcohol a little bit and dap those connections, let them dry a little and then secure them back on.. I screwed everything back together, said a short prayer telling God why I need this phone and the positive purposes it'd serve me, pressed the power button, and I the display worked!

I just gave this a shot (because I was in desperate need to get my phone back up) and it worked! I only used a 65% alcohol based solvent too. Thanks, I owe you a beer Russ!

lol You're funny. I'm going to give this a try. My daughter was caught repeatedly flushing my phone in the toilet for God knows how long. I of course turned it off, took it apart, dried it as best I could, but I forgot to say a prayer (maybe that's the difference :) ). At any rate, I was lucky to get another one for only $9.99 through my carrier with a new 2 year agreement...no plans to leave anyway.

I decided to put it on my new charger...I noticed the indicator light came on and was red, then turned green after a few hours. Whoop! Now, today, about 2 months later, I continue to keep it charged and now my touch screen is working (I can hear it), and my alarm keeps going off!! So, sound works, digitizer works, vibration works, and lights work! All I need now is to see the %#*@ screen!

I'm hoping your suggestion works...cross your phalanges for me!! ;)

ok this worked for me. plug your phone into your charger then attempt to turn it off or reboot .(while it is charging ) you should know where the button is well enough to try. then, turn it on again and it should show part of the screen. do this a couple times, and it will slowly start to show more of the screen. it took a couple tries and it was a lifesaver. my phone is in great condition now! good luck to you all
