Where Can I Find Replacement Micro USB Port?

I have found some general ports on Ebay, but I don't know if I need a specific type, or if I replace the entire USB/Headphone Jack assembly. I have hunted several sites, Ebay, Amazon, iFixit, DIY and a lot of forums for this information, and I'm just about to give up and hand it to my PC repair guy or Best Buy (which I reallllllly don't want to do!).

Does anyone know a great place I can find replacement parts for this confounded tablet!?

jonathanchiestand, it does most certainly look like a standard micro USB port, and I would be checking with places like Mouser.com or Digikey.com. Ultimately I would replace the I/O assembly cable. That is readily available, won't require any soldering and you won't have to hunt for it. It is available at places like this and others, I am sure. The guide from here should help you with that. Hope this helps, good luck.

oldturkey03 , What is the RS Component part number you used?

mrholidayinnexpress, sorry RS is really not a place I deal with. So I do not have their part number.

I managed to find one from a seller on Amazon UK.

Its actually better than the original as the metal is stronger and has been joined together better. Took me about 10 minutes to solder and fitted perfectly. Finally can charge my Nexus again :D

It's practically impossible to find a replacement I/O assembly cable.

My daughter broke her USB connector and I had to replace it.

Even though it's a standard micro USB connector, the PCB housing is pretty special.

I managed to find a somewhat similar housing with RS components, and replace it, but it took some creative soldering.

I don't recommend this though, if you're not experienced with fine pitch rework soldering, as the procedure does require some skill.

Sorry oldturkey03, I meant to direct the inquiry to Thomas.

So Thomas, can you refer me to the part number you used that you mentioned you acquired from RS Components?

Thanks

I purchased a replacement I/O assembly for my wife's Nexus 7 a few weeks ago on Ebay. It was from foxpcparts. I liked them because they shipped from Michigan (I'm in the USA). They aren't selling any today, but there are a few others that ship from China and Hong Kong. Just search for:

"nexus 7" usb charger port

By the way, it works great. The nexus charges much faster and the charger stays plugged in more reliably (not perfectly, but definitely better).

The TE Connectivity 1554266-1 (Digikey A107905CT-ND) is a very close match, but the pins are a bit too short. I was able to bridge the gap with solder but I doubt it will stand up to much abuse.

This link really helped fixing my wife's tablet. I bought the connector from ebay, shipping was free. It was really quick and came in a week. I got the old one removed and soldered the new one. The tablet started charging and working like before.

Steps in this thread really helped in getting the device fixed.

It works! Check out the pictures below.

I purchased the micro USB port below and had some success. The spacing between the anchors was off so I had to cut them off and simply surface mount solder the USB port on. The purchased port is not very close to the OEM version but it did the job.
