My iPod touch vs washing machine situation. HELP!

My situation so far: My ipod touch went through a whole cycle in the washing machine after being left in my jean pocket. My first instinct was to turn it on, and when I did, it showed the apple logo (as it always does when it starts up) which flickered off for a second on occasion, but stayed consistently the same for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes I turned it off. It turned back on after 5 minutes, so I turned it off again and it stayed off. I left it out on a paper towel to dry over-night. It wasn't until the next morning when I looked at different forums for advice, where I discovered that I should not have tried to turn the iPod on and that putting it in uncooked rice is extremely helpful. There were no forums that told me what I could do now that I had already turned it on (which is apparently fatal if it hasn't had time to dry out). It is currently turned of and submerged in a bowl of dried rice. What are the chances of its survival? What else can I/should I do?

Hi everyone a few days ago on like Sunday, My mom accidently put my ipod touch through the washer. when I received it back from the washer, obviously I tried to turn it on and it did not turn on the little apple logo didn't even show up. So I try to turn it on a few times a day and I haven't touched it today but I put in some rice before going to the movies at 10:15pm and did not touch it until today at about 1:00pm and my ipod touch has not turned on since it was put in the washer! I still have hope so I don't think its completely "dead" I feel there is at least one more ways to bring it back "Alive" Can someone please help me!

Chad Potter, Rice is great as a first aid, but you do not need to worry any more about it. The next thing I strongly suggest is that you do no longer try and turn it on. I strongly suggest is that you disassemble your iPod. Use these guides to work on it. After you have it disassembled, clean all the parts with high grade isopropyl alcohol (90%+ would be perfect). You can follow this guide for the cleaning. It will work for your iPod. After the cleaning replace the battery and re-evaluate for any damage. If you can't, or don't want to do this, the least you want to do, is to not try to start your iPod. It may make things worse. Hope this helps, good luck.

You are welcome:-) A bit of a PITA to take it apart, but use the guides and read through those and see if you are okay with this.

Do you think that it is absolutely imperative that I do this? I'm kind-of afraid I might do further damage to my ipod. Also, the instructions appear to be directed at an iphone or first generation iPod. Mine is a second generation. What do you recommend?

iPod Touch 2nd Generation Logic Board Replacement is the guide for the logic board removal. the guide to clean it is for an iPhone 3G but the steps to clean are pretty much the same. Since it has gone through the wash, I definitely suggest to go that route. If you are unsure or really do not want to do it, try to get it done through a commercial service. I am certain that if you do not clean it, it will experience failure later on.
