How to fix Rear power window not functioning in Lexus ES330?

The power rear window behind the drivers seat on my Lexus ES 330 stopped working. I hear a whirring noise when I press the window up/down switch on the door but the glass does not move up or down. Any thoughts as to what might be the issue and pointers/instructions on how to fix this would be great. Also if there is a manual work around to open and close the window that could work as a temporary solution, please feel free to suggest.

Thanks!

^^^^ I felt like I had already written about my problem, SweetPea! It's cold in Nashville, same window is down, and my vain self has a piece of plastic duct-taped to keep the rain and the snow out! Did you take out a Mailbox with your Passenger side side mirror, too? bwahaha - I'm serious!

Should I try this? My driver side front window randomly goes down part way and then stops going - sometimes it will start up in a few seconds or a few minutes and it happens randomly. Not sure if it could be the same solution, or something else? Thanks for any advice!

por

Absolutely works, Excellent post. May take up to 5 good door slams.

por

It worked but now the control arm to the window is at the top of the window it has scratched up the entire window cutting into the tint and I'm afraid it is going to shatter the window. I've now taken the panel off to see wtf cuz after slamming the door it seemed to go up then musta fallen again. Now I don't know what to do. That control arm is really strong and I'm not wanting a broken window.

Jarro, this is apparently a common issue with your model. There is a TSB out for a fix. You should notify your dealer. For a better information on this as well as a possible fix, check on here. Apparently, following the Lexus forums, this is the preferred fix:"

1. Sit in the seat

2. Open door that window is not working

3. Hold the window button down

4. Slam the door closed

I have had this problem twice on my GS 450H. The solution which worked for me is simple. Remove the manual key from the key fob and insert into driver's door. Turn the key left and hold for 2 seconds. It works!!!

There are many complicated solutions online - try this one first.

Good luck

It worked for me too on the first Slam. I had already taken the door panel apart before I saw this post. Guess I should have checked ifixit earlier!

Worked for me also. Thanks!!!!

I am amazed! As a motorcycle mechanic by trade, I never thought this could possibly work! After slamming the door 5 or 6 times, the window started working! Miracles never cease!

Just wanted to pitch in and say that oldturkey03's solution is the correct one. However, a few notes to keep in mind is that you do need to slam the door very hard. If you're gentle in fear that it may harm the car, it won't do a thing.

As well, I recall reading elsewhere that the electrical lock does kick in some sort of overheating protection after you use the power window switch a few times, which will render this technique completely useless. After you attempt to use the switch 4-5 times, wait an hour before trying again.

I had a sudden problem with rear psgr. window not operating. I heard it "click" when pressing the button...so knew it wasn't electrical problem. I took a towel against top and sides of window...and tapped my fist to possibly loosen window. It had been thru several car washes...and evidently it had created a "seal"... so...sure enough...it loosened window...and viola---worked again!!!

I have been reading about slamming your door very hard. Well my own trick if you dont wana slam your is simply start d car, hold down d button on d bad door, and pound d door from the inside with ur fist somhwere in d middle behind the door opening flip. Dis should work just once

por

This worked. You guys are great

por

This is Amazing. It worked for me. Thanks

por

I was skeptical but it worked. Had to slam the door hard four times but it worked. I would also suggest prior to slamming, press with your hands around the inside and outside of the window where it seats with the door to loosen if it's stuck. Thanks for your help!

My mom had this problem on her Lexus also. After reading all the replies here and the fact that I could hear the relay or switch in rear window trying to work, I did this:

Got one of my thin plastic auto body trim tools and ran it around underneath the rubber window seal from the outside. Instantly fixed it with no door slamming. I figure as someone else here said that soap residue from the car wash could be the culprit. I suspect it was. Literally 15 seconds to fix. A person could use a credit card or other slim piece of stiff plastic to do this. No special tools required.

Hello to all , stop slamming your doors , if that is what it takes to get your window to work then, it is a good chance

that is what caused your window not to work in the first place .

here is my story , same problem window would not move yet one could here the relay clicking on and off as i released the button for the window

First try a credit card all around the window to ensure the seals are not sticking to the window easy enough right ! do inside and outside now use silicone spray in the rubber both sides of the glass , no worry you can windex afterwards

if this fails try next step (NO DO NOT SLAM THE DOOR LOL)

Remove the door panel check Google how to do it , do not be intimidated it is easy stuff , watch out for the wiring used for light and switches , no worries everything just snaps back into place

locate the motor hold down bolts and with a ratchet loosen slightly each bolt , you do not want to remove them

if the window jambed there is a load on the motor by loosening the bollts you will here the motor shift back into a less stressed position tighten bolts plug wire test up and down .

if at this point the window does not work verify power to the motor if power is a yes you will probably need a new window motor

i hope this helps just remember cars are like people no one likes to get slapped when something is wrong :)

And for those who love taking care of your cars , a good habit is to occasionally role the window completely down and pass a rag in between the rubber seals , then another rag sprayed with silicone , takes 5 min a window do your trunk seals to , keeps them clean and soft , great before winter also

On the RX350 2013 rear passenger on driver side window does not open. Slammed the door while holding switch down. Window opened. Great!! now tried to close it and its stuck in open position.

So slammed door again and it went up half way. Had to do a bunch of slamming to close it all the way. Now its stuck in closed position

Slamming door works for a while then problem recurs. Anyone have this experience of the problem recurring ?

Yes. It works. Slam the door very hard. Try to knock it off it’s hinges. That one is crazy true. If you don’t slam like you want to break the door, nothing wont’t happen at all. It works!!!

Just tried this on my 2004 Lexus ES 330 and it worked! My rear passenger side window was open and would not close for the last week. This has happened a few times but would always work after restarting the car and pressing the button. Thanks!
