Galaxy S4 is frozen or unresponsive
The Galaxy S4 doesn’t seem to respond to button presses or touch input.
Software or memory error
A glitch in an app or the system software can cause the Galaxy S4 to become unresponsive. Sometimes all it takes to resolve the problem is a simple restart. Hold the power button down for seven seconds. The S4 should reboot and return to normal.
Galaxy S4 will not charge
The Galaxy S4 doesn’t charge when connected to a computer or charger.
Bad cable connection
Check the USB cable for damage and dirt, especially at the ends. Then try using the wall charger, as this will provide greater power input than the computer/USB.
Broken charger or USB cable
Try using different chargers to see if you may have a problem with your charger or cable.
Obstructed/bad micro USB port
Inspect the micro USB port at the bottom of the S4 for dirt, lint, and damaged pins. With the phone off, clean out the dock connector very carefully with a toothpick or soft toothbrush. If the micro USB port is broken, you will have to replace the USB daughterboard.
Galaxy S4 will not turn on
The Galaxy S4 doesn’t power on when the power button is pressed.
Drained/dead battery
It’s possible that the Galaxy S4 has simply run out of battery life. Try charging the phone and then see if it will power on. If that doesn’t help, try replacing the battery.
Bad display
It is possible that it appears nothing is happening because the display is bad. If the Galaxy S4 sounds like it is working properly but nothing is visible, it is possible the display is bad and must be replaced.
Bad motherboard
If the Galaxy S4 has a good battery, yet shows no signs of activity when you try to power it on, it’s possible that the motherboard has failed and will need to be replaced.
Galaxy S4 powers up into boot loop
The S4 continually reboots when powered up.
Corrupted or incompatible firmware
Bootlooping can occur when you load incompatible firmware to your phone. If you’ve just installed a custom ROM, try restoring your backup or installing the stock firmware.
Faulty power button
Continual rebooting on the S4 is often a sign that the power button has failed. Try removing and reinserting the battery to see if that resolves the problem. If the phone continues to reboot, try performing a hard reset. If the boot loop persists, then you likely have a faulty power button. You can try cleaning the button with electrical cleaner, or desoldering the button and installing a new one. The problem can also be resolved by replacing the motherboard.
No audio or distorted audio through speakers or headphones
When you plug in headphones or external speakers to your Galaxy S4, the audio doesn’t play properly.
Audio is muted or set to low volume
When you don’t hear any sound at all, it may be the case that your Galaxy S4 is muted or has the volume turned down. Try turning up the volume on the phone while playing audio content.
Bad headphones/speakers
It’s possible that your headphones or speakers aren’t working correctly. Try using your Galaxy S4 with another set of headphones or speakers to confirm that the problem is with the phone.
Bad audio jack
Impacts, corrosion, and foreign objects have the potential to damage the audio jack in your Galaxy S4. If you’ve turned up the volume on your phone and confirmed that the problem isn’t with your headphones or external speakers, it’s likely that the audio jack is damaged and needs to be replaced.

When I try to reply to an email, I get the response ‘loading messages', which seems to continue endlessly. The only way I can now do it is to back out until it allows me to save the blank reply to drafts, close email, re-open email, go to drafts, actually then write the reply as if I were continuing a draft, then finally send it. It used to be easy, now it's really cumbersome.
