Does your Dyson DC58 handheld vacuum shut off randomly during use? Dyson DC58 vacuums are susceptible to a range of problems that could cause them to turn off while in use. Check the following possible causes to identify and solve the problem.

Low Battery Level

The most common cause for the Dyson DC58 to power down during use is a dead battery. Charge the vacuum’s battery for at least two hours. After the battery is fully charged, try powering the device again.

Blocked Nozzles or Attachments

If a nozzle or attachment becomes blocked or clogged, the vacuum will automatically shut off to prevent further damage. To clear the blockages, turn off the vacuum’s power and unplug the vacuum. Next, remove the tool head from the vacuum wand. Remove the wand from the vacuum’s base. Visually inspect the inlet of the vacuum base, the inside of the wand, and the neck/base of the tool head. Carefully remove any visible blockages. Once the blockages are removed, power on the vacuum, and try to use it again.

Clogged Filter

If the filter becomes blocked, the vacuum will not function properly and may sporadically turn off during use. You may need to remove and clean out the filter. Remove the filter by twisting the purple dial labeled “filter” located at the top of the vacuum.

Pull the filter out of the vacuum and rinse it under running water for at least two minutes, or until the water runs clear. While rinsing the filter, gently shake it to remove any built-up debris. Gently wring out the filter to remove excess water. Place the filter in a dry, warm environment and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours, or until the filter is completely dry. Then, place the filter back into the vacuum and try to use it normally.

Our Dyson vacuum runs fine when fully charged…but, when I switch it to Max Power, it quits- and the blue light on battery pack is blinking. Why?

Mine does the same thing- it’s fully charged and the filters are clean
