Computer Will Not Power On
The laptop will not turn on.
Battery has no charge or battery not plugged in
If the computer is not turning on, make sure that the battery is connected and that it has enough charge to turn the computer on. If the battery is not charged, connect it to the AC adapter in order to charge it.
Faulty Power Adapter
Ensure that the adapter is plugged into a power source. If the indicator light on the adapter is not illuminated, the power adapter likely needs to be replaced.
Faulty Battery
If the laptop will not turn on unless the power adapter is plugged in, and the adapter is known to be in good working order, the battery likely needs to be replaced. Check with Acer to see if the battery is replaceable under warranty; otherwise, purchase a new battery. See the battery replacement guide here.
Computer won't start with new battery
If a new battery was installed or the AC adapter is plugged in but the computer will not start, it could be indicative of a motherboard issue.
Computer turns on but won't reach Windows
The laptop turns on, but won't reach Windows or won't display anything.
Windows starts loading but never finishes or restarts
If you can see the Windows startup process begin but it either never finishes or restarts before it can finish, it could be an indication of a wrong configuration or missing files. Insert a Windows Installation disk of your version of Windows and use the "repair my computer" option.
Nothing shows up on the screen
If nothing shows up on the screen, but the fan is running or you see lights on the laptop, the screen might need to be replaced.
My computer displays diagnostic messages but will not see Windows
If your computer starts up properly but does not show any indication of a Windows Installation, or displays a message saying it cannot find a suitable boot partition, your Hard Drive might have crashed. Although it might be possible to salvage by using a Windows Installation Disk and the "Repair my Computer" option, chances are a new Hard Drive will be required.
A message regarding SMART shows up
A Self-Monitoring Assesment and Reporting Tool (SMART) is a message that warns about failing conditions on your solid-state drives or hard drives. You should back up all of your files and settings and consider replacing the drive.
Internet Connection Issues
The laptop will not connect to the internet using Wi-Fi.
Wireless Router Issues
Try connecting a different device to the same router. If there is an issue with the second device connecting then there might be an issue with the router. Check your wireless router for connection problems.
Wi-Fi Card Issues
If you are unable to connect to the internet, or your device is having issues detecting wireless routers: try connecting your laptop to the internet using an Ethernet cable. If the connection works then there may be an issue with your Wi-Fi Card. After ruling out the possibility of the wireless router being an issue, try replacing your Wi-Fi Card.
Performance Issues
The laptop is not performing as it originally was, or is behaving too slowly.
Programs run sluggishly or constantly hang
If your programs are taking a long time to perform simple tasks or are constantly, it could be an indication of a faulty memory module.
I receive constant blue screens when running programs
If your laptop is constantly hanging and displaying blue screens, it could be an indication of a faulty memory module.
Distorted Audio
The laptop will not play audio or the audio is of poor quality.
Faulty Speakers
Having opened the laptop, check if the speaker cables are snug in place. If there is a lose connection, this could be a potential culprit for bad audio. If the speakers do not play audio at all or there is static noise, consider replacing the speakers in the device. See the speaker replacement guide here.
