    • Insert the iFixit pick into the seam along the edge of the controller and slide it around to release the clips holding it together.

    • Leave opening picks in the space to keep the top and bottom case from reattaching.

    • Use an iFixit tool to carefully pry around the edges of the controller.

    • Once loosened, gently separate the top and bottom of the controller.

    • Do not separate the top and bottom sections, as they are still connected by a ribbon cable.

    • Use a spudger to gently push up on alternating sides of the black plastic tab until it clicks up into its unlocked position.

    • Don't push the tab too hard or too far, otherwise it may come completely off the connector.

    • Use tweezers to gently pull the cable out of its socket.

    • The cable should be able to slide in and out of the socket with little to no force. If you feel resistance, the tab may not be fully unlocked.

    • During reassembly, insert the cable into its socket and use the flat end of a spudger to push the tab down into its locked position.

    • Separate the top and bottom casing of the controller.

    • If you feel resistance, check for any cables still connecting the two halves and avoid forcing them apart.

    • In the back shell, near the trigger assembly, use a finger to hold the small metal spring in place while removing the trigger cap.

    • This will prevent the spring from popping out and getting lost.

    • Use a spudger or opening tool to gently squeeze the two plastic locking hooks on the inside of the trigger cap.

    • Push the trigger cap outward through its slot until it pops free.

    • You may hear a click as the trigger disconnects.
