1. Adjust the Refresh Rate

By default, the phone is often set to 120Hz, which makes scrolling smooth but drains the battery significantly faster.

  • Go to Settings > Display > Refresh Rate.
  • Switch from "Default" or "120Hz" to 60Hz. If you prefer the smoothness, select Custom and see if "Auto" helps, but 60Hz is the biggest battery saver.

2. Network Tweak: Switch to 4G/LTE

If you are in an area where 5G signal is weak, your phone will constantly "hunt" for a 5G tower, which generates heat and kills the battery.

  • Go to Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Preferred network type.
  • Select Prefer LTE or 4G. You will likely notice a cooler phone and a slower battery drop.

3. Display & Visuals

Since this phone uses an AMOLED screen, black pixels actually turn off, saving power.

  • Enable Dark Mode: Go to Settings > Display > Dark Mode.
  • Turn off Wallpaper Carousel: This is a known battery hog. Go to Settings > Lock screen > Glance for Mi and turn it OFF.
  • Always-On Display (AOD): If you have this on, set it to "For 10 seconds after tapping" rather than "Always."

4. Optimize HyperOS / MIUI Battery Settings

The built-in battery tool is actually quite effective.

  • Go to Settings > Battery.
  • Check the "Current Mode"—switching to Battery Saver (not Ultra) can give you an extra 2–3 hours of screen time.
  • Look at the list of apps below. If you see an app you rarely use consuming a high percentage, tap it and select "Force stop" or change its Background Settings to "Restrict background activity."

5. Disable "Wake Screen for Notifications"

If your phone is constantly lighting up in your pocket or on your desk, it’s wasting power.

  • Go to Settings > Lock screen.
  • Toggle off "Wake Lock screen for notifications." Use the notification LED or a vibration instead.
