Repair and troubleshooting information for the HP Probook G6, an HP laptop part of the HP Probook series. Released in December 2018.

My laptop won't turn on, but the power button light turns on.

In addition to the issues I mentioned in the title, when I try to turn it on, it makes a loud noise, I think it's the ventilation, and it only stops when I turn it off and i feel some air coming out from the inside. It charges but doesn't open. It's relatively new I've only had it for 2 years. But its battery has never lasted more than 4 hours. Can you help me please? I appreciate it.

Hi @limaerika

Try a full power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

  • Disconnect the charger from the laptop (if connected)
  • Open the laptop and remove the main battery from the laptop.
  • Disconnect and remove the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard. When the RTC battery is out, measure its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC or if the battery is >4-5 years old (the laptop model was first released in 2018 so it's possible) replace it. Search online for L02772-001 to find suppliers that suit you best. (examples only).

Here's the Maintenance And Service Guide for the laptop. Go to p.39 (49 of 122 pdf) and p.61 (71 of 122) in the manual to view the procedures to remove/replace the main battery and the RTC battery respectively.

  • Press and hold the laptop's power button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.
  • Reverse the above procedure to reconnect the RTC battery, reconnect the main battery and reassemble the laptop.
  • Connect the charger and check if the laptop turns on OK,

If it does there may be a message stating that the date and time are incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been reset by the above procedure. Once the date and time have been adjusted, the message won't appear the next time that the laptop is started. Also any user definable BIOS setting that were changed by you to suit whatever operating requirements you needed, will have to be changed back again also.

If the laptop turns on etc, create a battery report to check the condition of the battery. If the report shows that the Full Charge capacity value is <40% of the Design capacity value, you may want to consider replacing the battery. Search online for L32656-002 to find suppliers that suit you best. (examples only)
