Key panel stops working for some time after cooking

When I cook bacon for about 10 minutes that creates some moisture in the door the key panel stops working for about 30mins. I removed the main and key panel control boards and they were not moist. Any way to resolve this?

I'm not using auto cooking, when the problem occurs the display continues to work but no buttons work including cancel or set clock. How could the humidity sensor be involved here?

The door drips water when opening cooking this particular brand of bacon. I'm also covering the bacon with paper towel and a lid, still occurs. We haven't had this problem cooking any other items.

Hi @shawntech78278

If you have the oven model as selected it has a humidity sensor which can be used in the cooking process.

Go to p.15→p.19 in the user manual to see how the humidity sensor is used.

30 minutes does seem a bit excessive so perhaps it may be that the charcoal filter needs cleaning/replacing (GE p/n WB02X11550), the vent fan is not working efficiently (see p.30 in the manual), or it is a faulty humidity sensor GE p/n WB24X21307 (examples only to show part),

Here's an image of the oven cavity parts diagram showing where the sensor is located

Here's the mini manual that may also help.

Be safety aware when working inside microwave ovens. The HV capacitor can store >5000V DC for months, even if the power has been disconnected for this length of time. This amount of voltage can seriously injure you. The HV capacitor needs to be discharged correctly as soon as it can be accessed after the oven's cover has been removed and before commencing any further work in the oven.

Hi @shawntech78278

You mentioned 'moisture' in your original question so my answer was based on how it might be a factor in causing the problem.

Looking at the schematic in the mini manual I linked, it doesn't show how the key control panel gets power from the control board so you may have to try eliminating possibilities to try and narrow it down a bit

The humidity sensor is connected to the control board so perhaps you could try disconnecting it from the board (CN150 connector) and then see if cooking foods that create excessive moisture cause the same problem to occur or not.

If the problem does not occur then it might be the sensor, it if does then it is something else but at least you've eliminated it as the cause. The sensor may have another purpose other than auto cook. It could also be used to protect the oven from being operated if it senses that there's too much moisture inside.

When the problem occurs does the exhaust fan keep operating, if it is on?

Hi @shawntech78278

If you disconnect the humidity sensor from the control and the key controls don't work when trying to use the oven, then to me it indicates that the sensor is also used to protect the oven as well as for auto cook

Ill give it a try, wonder why there is not more ventilation?

@shawntech78278

Is the stirrer fan operating in the roof of the oven?

This should help to draw out the heat/humidity from the oven and out through the filter.

See part #47 & #48 in the oven cavity parts diagram

How would I confirm operation?
