Hi @arnavmalhotra

All the keys highlighted in the image you posted are connected in a matrix arrangement and connect to pins 64-66 of IC901 (see p.36 of the service manual you linked).

Unfortunately there's no circuit diagram of what the other side of the switches connect to.

It must be something common for all of them not to register when pressed.

Check if there's on earth (or voltage) on one side of each switch in the normal position

hey. thank you so much for the reply. is there any chance that the ic itself could be bad?

from my understnding, the resistors add resistance and that is how the ic interprets it. since the resistor are highly unlikely to fail, it leads me to believe the ic itself is bad. literally every problem is wth that one rail, with all buttons above tape A/B. i could be wring tho.

ALso, can you help me regarding the dvd player- it's sensor has to be adjusted so that its power increases. on youtube, i saw some people increasing it's power using a potentiometer, is the same possible here? i have taken the cd player apart and cleaned the laser, but to no avail. it takes a lot of time to load and play a disk. There are no spare parts available for the DVD player since its over 20 years old

@arnavmalhotra

Usually an IC doesn't fail in just one area of its function so check where the switches connect to because it must be something common to all.

Also adjusting lasers can be difficult without the right equipment.

Have you tried using the part numbers when searching for parts?

por

Yes, I have tried searching for parts both with Google lens and via part no.s I just get hinresults found. What are the 'right tools' for adjusting the laser?

por

@arnavmalhotra

You would need an oscilloscope to start with.

Although given how old the player is no doubt the laser diode is on its last legs anyway.

See p.29 of the manual.

por

Yeah probably. Let's leave the disk, because I don't think it can be fixed. My main concern would be the buttons not working. Do you think those resistors could have failed? Unfortunately I don't have a multimeter to check that, so is there any other way?
