Which Adhesive Strip is used for the Series 4 Watch?

There's two gaps in the watch that need to be sealed: between force touch sensor and LCD, and between force tough sensor and chassis.

Apple Watch Series 4 Battery Replacement

Step 6 of the repair guide stated that, the force tough sensor should be separated from the display, and it took me 10 minutes to clean up the adhesive.

Then I noticed that in the repair guide, only ONE installation of adhesive strip is mentioned. I used two adhesive strips provided in the IFIXIT repair kit, heated up the display, and provided high and even pressure between the LCD and the chassis. Didn't work. 2 days later, the LCD fell off, and both adhesive strips didn't stick at all

It is possible that the watch still functions. I need to know what adhesive I should use, and how I can make them stick correctly. NOTE: Please specify which adhesive to use between each gap

This is a bit tricky as it depends on what you removed, often times the ForceTouch sensor gets damaged so you need to replace it and that only has adhesive on one side. Then you have the second dual sided adhesive die-cut which you first adhere to the ForceTouch and then peel off the blue protective layer to then mount the crystal display.

Now before you even start this, the surfaces need to be spotless and have nothing getting in the way. I’ve also found some cleaners are not leaving the surface clean enough. As an example I use Goo Gone which is a citrus oil to remove the adhesive (which it does quite well) but the film it leaves a surface that the adhesive won’t adhere to properly. So I do a second clean with 90% reagent grade isopropyl alcohol going over the surface twice with a clean wipe.

Then we get into the heat and pressure, the adhesive doesn’t like cold surfaces as such I use a heat pad to warm the case and crystal display just before I start applying the parts (it doesn’t take much about 130F/54.4C). After the crystal display is mounted, I continue to apply heat as well as place a heavy brick to top applying even pressure across the crystal and covered of course so it doesn’t scratch the crystal. I leave the heat on for about an hour and then let the watch set for the night with the weight.

The force tough sensor replacement had no adhesive on either side. I had to use an adhesive on the underside of the sensor. Might be smart for me to buy another force tough replacement

Suppose the force tough sensor does adhere to the frame, what does the LCD adhere to? Does it adhere to the rim of the rim of the frame, or to the force touch sensor?

@willdrunke51100 - Think of it like a sandwich, a slice of bread a slice of meat and cheese then the top slice of bread. Each layer has something holding the pieces together.

So here we have the case, the ForceTouch sensor, then a double sided die-cut adhesive then the display crystal. If the ForceTouch didn’t offer the adhesive then you’ll need to get a few more die-cut adhesive units.

To be clear the single stack up of the layers is all there is, no special or other odd actions needed.

Suppose the force touch sensor has adhesive on the underside, would it be sufficient at restoring water resistance?

@willdrunke51100 - Sadly, a repaired watch wont offer the same level of leak proofness as a new watch, even Apple won’t guarantee it either.

Between the materials freshness, the skills of the tech and any physical damage to the case or crystal you can have a watch which is fine to wear even in the rain but not something to immerse or have under running water from a sink or shower.
