Hi,

Your Emmc drive is set as first boot device.

The usb device is set at position 4, so it won’t boot usb first.

I’m pretty sure there’s a function key (check your model for F Key)to use at start up to select which device you want to boot from if you don’t want to set usb in first position.

Hope this helps

What happens if you step down and to the USB HDD option in BIOS, does it show any options when you hit Enter e.g. enable/disable?

Are you sure that you have a "bootable" USB disc and not just a USB with an install or repair file loaded on it?

Are you trying to repair the laptop's OS which is on the EMMC storage drive?

What is the model number of the laptop and what OS is installed?

nothing really happens, it doesnt show any options. im sure its a bootable usb, it works on other computers i have/had. the laptop is acer aspire es1-132 and it has windows 10. its my girlfriends old laptop from like 2018 and we dont know the password. i tried it with repair mode (or how it is called in english, restart while holding shift key) so i could reset the windows into the factory settings but it says there is no space on the disk so it cannot even set the laptop to the factory settings. thats why i tried the bootable usb.

Try the following to get into the WRE (WIndows Recovery Environment) and check if you can reinstall Windows from there.

Turn on the laptop and when it starts to boot into Windows (assuming it still does this) force stop it by pressing and holding the Power on button until it shuts down.

Do this 3 times in a row i.e. Turn on > boot > force stop > turn on > boot > force stop > turn on > boot etc.

On the 3rd attempt it should boot into the WRE menus. If it does select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC then select the option you want.

Haven't done this for a long time so I can't remember if the "keep my files" option also means the passwords etc. or not. If it does try the other option.

The specifications for the laptop show only 32GB of storage which doesn't leave much room after Windows is installed so maybe there's no recovery partition therefore no WRE

If you plug in a USB mouse (or even connect a mobile phone) to a USB port in the laptop, does the laser light on the mouse turn on (or the phone indicates that it is charging)?

Just wondering if the USB ports aren't supplying power to any USB devices attached that need power to operate e.g. USB flashdrives.

If there is no indication of power being supplied by the USB port then maybe try using a USB flashdrive plugged into a powered USB hub as well as the laptop. That way the flashdrive is powered and hopefully now the laptop will "see" it as it is working.
