PSU upgrade for CiT 1017 PC case?

Hello,

So my 2nd PC that I mainly use for watching movies/football on the big TV in living room requires a PSU upgrade. The original PSU, a CiT Pemtium 500u, has seemingly died (began making crackling/hissing sounds and won't power the motherboard any more) and I now need to replace the PSU with another.

The issue is I am not sure what PSUs will fit the case. The case is a CiT 1017. The main specs of the machine are as follows:

CPU: Intel i5 6600K

Cooler: Cryorig M9i

RAM: Corsair LPX 8GB 3000MHz

Motherboard: AsRock Z170 Extreme4

GPU: EVGA 1050Ti 4GB SC

I've found a potential replacement I'd like to buy for this PC. It is the Corsair CX550. It's currently £48 on Amazon UK. Would this PSU fit the CiT 1017 case? If not, what are my options? I don't really want to spend too much on this as it only needs a new PSU. I don't feel like upgrading the case as it would just add additional costs.

What is the make and model number and also the dimensions of the PSU, that needs to be replaced?

A standard size ATX PSU is 150mm x 86mm x 140mm, a micro ATX PSU is 150mm x 86mm x 100mm and an sfx ATX PSU is 125mm x 63.5mm x 100mm.

The PSU that you selected is a standard size ATX PSU.

If it is the same physical size as the original, then the only other thing to ensure that it has the same power specification as the original i.e. 550W or more

The PSU that was in the PC originally says it's a ATX switching power supply and the model just says "Pemtium Model: 500U". The manufacturer of the PSU is the same as the case's, CiT. It's a 500W supply.

I don't know what the product dimensions are. I tried searching dimensions for both the case and old PSU. I only found one topic on Tomshardware asking about what PSU fits the case. Unfortunately, the thread was not updated with any new information.

I took a gamble and just ordered the PSU hoping that it fits since there just isn't enough information online about this PSU or case. It arrives tomorrow.

Take it out and measure it. There's a noticeable difference in the size of them and all ATX supplies are wired to the same standard as per pin connections etc. Only the outputs i.e. total wattage and case dimensions are different

@jayeff Looks like the fit will be OK. The problem is the fan on the Corsair PSU faces upwards. This case mounts the PSU at the top and there's no vents at all at the top of the case. The case forces the PSU to be mounted in a specific way because on the old PSU the fan is at the rear of the PSU where the cable socket and switch is.

Looking online, I can see that having the PSU fan facing upwards will be a problem as there's no vents and barely any clearance from the looks of it (only may be a very small gap). I can't face the fan downwards either due to the case forcing the PSU to be mounted one way.

I'm guessing this will be a problem?

It seems that all ATX PSUs aren't all configured the same way so you may have to search for different brands that are configured the same as the original.

Search online for EP10N1 (example only) to find one that is the original, I think.

Hopefully you can get a refund on the one that you ordered.

@jayeff The CX550 PSU arrived today and fit perfectly. The PSU fan actually faces downwards and not upwards like I thought, so that's fine. The fan isn't blocked. Only issue is I couldn't power both the DVD drive and SATA drive due to the distance between both. The provided SATA cable would not reach both, so I had to sacrifice the DVD drive and leave it unpowered. I don't really use it anyway. PC now works fine - thankfully the old PSU did not damage anything.
