Not turning on after battery replacement

Hey, after replacing the battery my laptop has not been able to turn on. The replacement seemed to go well as I simply replaced the part and put cable in but somehow the laptop is giving issues turning back on.

Here is more specific details on how the laptop is reacting:

When powering on, fan spins and power light goes on but no other signs of life, no keyboard backlight or display

I tried putting old battery in and it doesn't work either, doing same issues. I tried running off charger only while battery is removed and it also acts the same.

Laptop power light turns on when on charger, unable to turn off. Charging light works and shows battery status correctly while charging. Display, keyboard backlight don't turn on, nor do the fans at full speed (although I noticed one of them spinning while I plugged in charger.). All the ribbons and connections look okay so I'm not sure why it isn't turning on.

Hi @alexspin

Try a power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

Disconnect the charger if connected, open the laptop and then disconnect the battery from the motherboard.

Press and hold the laptop's power on/off button for a full 30 seconds and then release.

Reconnect the battery to the motherboard and reassemble the laptop.

Reconnect the charger and try turning it on.

If it turns on OK there may be a message stating that the date and time are incorrect. This is normal as the procedure above has reset the BIOS back to factory default. Once the D&T have been correct the message won't appear the next time the laptop is started. Also any user definable BIOS settings that were changed by you to suit whatever operating requirements you needed, will have to be changed back again

Hey, I tried this but the laptop is still behaving the same way. Once I plugged charging cord in, the charging light and power light turned on but no signs that it is on other than one fan is slowly spinning and power/charging indicator.

I also just tried using Novo button to turn on but no luck, it also turns on power indicator and one fan to low speed but no other signs of turning on.

As a sidenote, I did have a dual boot setup but I don't think that should have caused any issues as bios should be bootable.

@alexspin

You said that you can't "turn it off" when on the charger.

Check if you can fully charge the replacement battery and then see if it turns on or if still not try starting on the battery only and once started if it doesn't pass POST or boot then press keep holding the power button on to see if it turns off

Thank you for the reply! I was able to fully charge the battery (according to charging status indicator), but upon trying to start laptop from just battery it still reacts by just turning on the power indicator and one of the fans at low speed but keyboard backlight and display don't turn on. I am able to turn the power indicator off while it is off the charger after holding power button for 10s. When on the charger, the indicator flashes off then back on shortly when I press the power button for 10s.

Also if I try holding for longer while it is on the charger, it flashed off, then turns right back on every 10-15s or so.

@alexspin

It may come down to a board problem.

Here's the schematic for the motherboard.

You may have to check the voltage rails are all OK when the laptop is turned on.

Ah I see something... Looks like a tiny resistor got loose on the motherboard.
