Battery has X, Mac Hibernates
Hey guys, this Mac has been giving me problems recently. The battery is the menu bar has an X on it. Click the battery icon and it says "No batteries available. Power Source: Power Adapter." Of course, the battery is installed. Recently, I was able to plug in the Mac, and then connect the battery while the Mac was running. At that point the Mac recognized the battery and it began to charge. It got all the way to 60% and stopped charging and went back to X in the menu bar. Then, after playing with the battery some more, the Mac started running on battery power. I drained it from 50% to 20% and charged it again, no problem. Then, upon sleeping overnight, the Mac went into a state of hibernation. I had to reconnect the power adapter and that's when the Mac woke back up; X on battery. Ever since, the Mac runs on the power adapter, and simply sleeps when on battery power. So, the Mac undoubtedly has power from the battery, it just seems to refuse to recognize it.
I have tried all the basics: NVRAM Reset, SMC Reset, Master Reset, Hard Reset, etc. to no avail.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Here’s a picture of the Coconut Battery while the X is in the Menu Bar: basically no help.
When playing around with the batter the Mac eventually recognized it:

Try going to finder / preferences / sidebar / enable under icloud the macbook name / then go to the location of the HDD / library / Preferences / and delete the 3 items:
com.apple.powerlogd
com.apple.PowerManagement & com.apple.Power***
Empty the trash. Restart. Charge it full..... run a video on repeat all night so it fully drains the battery, then full charge plus 2 hours and all should be fine :) This is another way to reset any battery status messages. But if a fresh install didn't fix it then fearthere is another issue at play....
Hope it works for you, it did for me on many different batteries that were still in good charging capacities.

@livfe - I know this is not software related, simply because I just reinstalled Mac OS X Lion with the battery firmware upgrade. Still had the same issue. But, I recalibrated the battery, and I haven't had any issues. So... I think the Mac is fine now!
