Whirlpool Toploader Cold Wash and Normal cycles DEAD

Model WTW4900BW1 washer works fine except on Cold Wash and Normal cycles.

When set to either of those cycles, nothing happens at all - no lights no sound, no nothing. Since everything works on other cycles I suspect the selector knob.

Hi @amateur31831

Here's the tech sheet for the model that will help.

It could be the cycle selector switch or perhaps the main control board.

Go to p.4 UI Test Mode and check if that shows anything.

If so go to p.16 TEST #4: Console and Indicators and see if that narrows it down.

If you find that it is a faulty part that needs replacing, here's a parts list that is useful. Locate the wanted part in the list to find the manufacturer's part number that is listed with the part. Search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

Also if you search on YouTube for (insert part number) replacement, there may be videos that show how to remove/replace the part. It is not guaranteed that there will be one but still worth a look nevertheless.

Thanks for the suggestions. I seem to have fixed the machine though there was nothing too obvious. With intermittent problems it can be hard to say if it's fixed for sure. I viewed the error codes (F2E5, F5E1,F0E0.) Service tech manual suggest test 4 for F2E5 so I did that. It allows to test each control separately. The second dial on the console was a little inconsistent. I dismantled the console and unplugged all connectors even though I had already re-seated them all previously. All contacts and the main board looked very clean- like new. Nevertheless I used a small awl to tweak all the knob connectors slightly for a tighter fit. Then I reassembled the unit and now it's working perfectly so far.
