The first generation (KJ) Jeep Liberty, a compact 4-door SUV. Sold in both 2WD and 4WD configurations.

What is the torque pattern for the heads?

I'm in the process of changing the head gaskets, but don't know or understand the torque process on the head when I put it back together agian with the new gaskets and new bolts.

Solução escolhida

@ivanbendana let's start with the 3.7.

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are tightened using an angle torque procedure, however, the bolts are not a torque-to-yield design.
(6) Tighten the bolts in sequence using the following steps and torque values:
† Step 1: Tighten bolts 1–8, 27 N·m (20 ft. lbs.).
† Step 2: Verify that bolts 1–8, all reached 27 N·m (20 ft. lbs.), by repeating step-1 without loosening the bolts. Tighten bolts 9 thru 12 to 14 N·m (10 ft. lbs.).
† Step 3: Tighten bolts 1–8, 90 degrees (Fig. 32).

@dadibrokeit well you know what they say. Even a broken clock is right twice a day :-)

In my opinion its a bad design there should be more bolts , thr little bolts should be big bolts, and they all should be stage torqued to 90 ftLbs. 15 45 and 90 proll wouldnt go thruso many head gaskets this way but thets just the opinion of an old redneck.

Ill add that im doing one right now and so this comment is some kind of useful ill stage torque 1 thu 8 to 90, and add 25 percent to 9 thru 12... When i test drive it, ill give er 7 different kinds of hell and let you know if she grenades or not... Hey yall watch this!!!

por

this is actually not fully correct. I believe u need to do 2 90 degree turns on each bolt in the 1-8 sequence before you take the small guys to 20#, its missing two steps. those heads are gonna be way under torque

1-8 20#

9-12 10#

1-8 90 degrees

1-8 90 degrees

9-12 20#
