My Y50-70 Touch does not go to sleep when I close the lid

I’ve got a Y50-70 Touch that works great other than the system does not go to sleep when the lid is closed. In Windows 10 power settings, it’s set to go to sleep. I looked in bios for a setting but there is not one. Also the mic does not work. I read somewhere that the hall sensor might be part of the camera/mic board. Could this be the issue? How can I test it?

Hi @brandonmoo35964

The lid switch sensor is U21 on the power button board.

According to the schematic it shows that it is a SA00004PT00 but I can't find the datasheet or any other information online regarding what type of sensor it is, e.g. hall sensor (magnetic) or a light sensor.

There should be +3V on pin 2 and an Earth on pin 1. The output is on pin 3.

Check if the output changes when hovering a magnet over U21 or perhaps covering it so that no light can get to it.

The output is directed to the keyboard controller on the motherboard.

The digital mic array data and clock leads connects to pins 23 & 24 of the eDP cable which then connects to the audio IC ALC283-CG

I think that the lid switch is mounted near the power button so either run a magnet near (around) the same area or cover it up and check if the display turns off/on

The mic is not there it is near the camera in the lid.

Have you checked in Control Panel - Sound - Recording to see if the mic is detected and selected as default?

If it is determined that the microphone is faulty, here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Go to p.78 to view the procedure to remove/replace the camera module. The microphone is mounted on it. The part number for the module is 5C20F78822.

Search online using the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

Thank you for the reply. I’m not familiar with how to read a schematic. Would I need to cover where the mic array is or somewhere else to keep light from coming in? I did pull up the schematic just to see if I could understand it and I saw a “lid sensor” on the main diagram.

My bad it’s called a lid switch

The sensor seems to be working properly. I ran a magnet near the middle of the bezel where the power button and speakers are located and the screen did turn off. My next test will be to tighten the hinge screws since they are loose. There is a magnet behind the lcd on the bottom to trigger the sensor. I’m thinking the loose hinge screws might be preventing the magnet from triggering the sensor (maybe too far away) or the magnet is bad if that can happen.

B4 looking for a hardware problem, verify your setting are correctly set to turn off your computer when lid is closed.
