Keyboard issues after replacing battery

Hi!

I've replaced the battery on this Macbook to keep it functional for a little while longer. After replacement I've noticed the keyboard is having some issues. Certain keys, the E up to the O, all along the same row, aren't working. The problem is intermitted.

Has any of you got an idea what the issue could be and how to solve it?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Edit: I have noticed that once I hold the keyboard at a 90 or 180 degree angle somehow the keys come back to life. This does lead me to believe it's a connection issue. I've also reset NVRAM, which might've helped.

So my next question would be; which connection could cause this issue? So I know which to check

Solução escolhida

You could try to clean the keyboard socket (internal) with isopropyl 99% alcohol and a fine toothbrush. Also inspect and clean the end of the flat keyboard cable that connect into the socket. Make sure the cable is well inserted into the socket.

Thanks a lot for the answer! I will definitely do so. Today the keyboard has been working without any problems so I am kind of thinking it indeed has to be something connection-related

The keyboard connector is right by where you were working and may have pulled loose a little. Re-seat it. See steps 18 - 20 of this guide:

Update your drivers. Outdated or corrupted drivers could prevent your keyboard from connecting and responding. Update the driver, restart the computer, and then test the keyboard again to see if it's working again. Check your keyboard language settings.

Hope this helps

@willjoe

Macs don’t have drivers for their components that you can update individually

You need to update the OS on a Mac to update your drivers :-)

The Macbook is fully updated as it is

Im more and more starting to think it's an issue with the actual keyboard. But the strange thing is it's still intermitted. I'm writing this on that very keyboard without issues, while 10 minutes ago the same 7 keys were unusable. If it keeps happening I'm going to exchange the keyboard, but currently I'm not convinced it's the problem

@huib_n

Yeah,it’s most likely not OS/driver related as it happened after a repair:-)
