Exposure wrong when using viewfinder

Low mileage T3i... when using the optical viewfinder the camera always overexposes, by almost 3 stops. When using the rear LCD panel the images are correctly exposed. Which leads me to believe that there may be something either blocking or hindering the sensors for the optical viewfinder exposure system. Any leads?
