Dismantle/open display on Lenovo IdeaPad Y730 (non-Legion)

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y730 laptop (original version, not the later Legion-series that ended up using the same model names) Model # 4053 that the display panel is not even recognized the majority of the time. I know the panel itself is still working, because on rare occasions it will actually start working when you power it on.

Using an external VGA or HDMI monitor the system will display the MSWin10 desktop, so I know the video chipset should be working. Usiing a remote-access utility when there is no external monitor attached, and looking at Device Manager on those occasions when the display isn’t working shows the system doesn’t even recognize any Monitor device. If the display happens to work, it shows the display panel under Monitors.

I would like to try replacing the display cable, but two issues come up here. Lenovo is unable to find what the part number for a replacement dirplay cable/harness is. I would open it up to see if I can get the part number that way, but then I encounter the subject of this question. The display/lid simply will not come apart. I have removed all the screws along the edge & bottom of the lid, but the back of the lid won’t budge. And as this has a full-width class cover on the display rather than the typical bezel, the usual methods of prying the cover off won’t work. Any links I’ve found for a service manual for this laptop result in 0-byte files, and I have yet to find any other instructions on pulling the display apart.

You have probably already done all this but have you checked that the display cable is connected correctly - not loose - as you mentioned that it sometimes works.

That was the other thing I would check when I got the lid open; I figured the worst thing I would need to do is change the harness. But as I say I can't get the lid opened to even check the connection or the part number.

For what it's worth I think that this might be the LCD cable or this one if it is a Type 20010 model. Hopefully the Type number is on the info label on the laptop.

Searching online using the part #50.4Z802.001 gives more results and none mention "Legion" in the model name. Unfortunately there was no part number associated with the 2nd link above to see if it was the same as the one in the 1st link

It appears that the LCD cable in a Legion Y730 is part of the LCD panel and cannot be individually replaced. There is also no mention of it in the parts list for the Legion Y730 model so maybe the above link is the correct one for your model.

What is the "type number" of the laptop (hopefully it is on the info label after the model number)?

I can find Lenovo drivers for your model on this EOL page but it is not listed when clicking on the Hardware Maintenance manual > laptops link on the page, only the IdeaPad Y560 which when looking at the HMM has a screen with a bezel. There is however a user manual for your model.

Not much help I know but this is all that I could find.
