Liquid detection Issues Samsung Tab S6 lite

My S6 Lite developed a charging issue after a few months. It would respond to the cable plugging in but the battery charge would not increase. Nor did it decrease as long as plugged in. I could use the table for hours at 5% charge while plugged in.

Swapping cables and chargers, cleaning the port made no difference, it always recognizes that it’s plugged in but shows zero amps of actual charge current going to the battery. I worked through some steps with Samsung support and it seems that it’s probably a faulty charge controller inside. . I sent it to the Samsung repair center under warranty but they rejected it as the indicator has changed. I live on a tropical coast and it’s 99.9% humidity in rainy season. But tablets and laptops do fine for years and years. Problem is that the humidity trips the indicator and then there’s no warranty service as the company considers the indicator to be 100% accurate, so it must be water damage is their contention.

Two questions:

1) how do we get these companies to realize that their indicators are not 100% accurate and that they are losing customer due to bad service based on indicators. I, for one, will never buy Samsung again due to refusal to repair using indicator as reason.

2) How can I repair this S6lite with a failed charge controller?

Thanks!

S Lewis to number 1) "how do we get these companies to realize that their indicators are not 100% accurate" we don't.They are in charge of our destiny with their devices that we paid for. "that they are losing customer due to bad service based on indicators..." they do not care. For every one customer that feels like you there are 10 more that continue to support this. The principal MO for the profit-before-people/planet machinery. That is why we need Right-to-Repair legislation enacted.

If you can, post some good pictures of your boards with your question. That way we can see what you see and hopefully find a good solution for you. Adicionar imagens a uma pergunta já existente

@oldturkey03 Yes, you've got it. I hope we can at least spread the word that the indicators are not foolproof and err on the side of leaving a consumer with an issue that was not their fault. People should know that their device has no warranty at all if they live in a highly humid place.

I have not disassembled the device and don't plan to unless there is a clear path to fixing it. I have fixed a few devices over the years and broke a few glued in screens in the process as well. If somebody said "there is a charge controller on ebay for under $50 and it's quite doable, I would try! But I suspect it's a circuit in the mainboard and is a case of replacing the mainboard.

S Lewis makes sense. For as long as it somewhat works no reason to risk tearing it apart. What exact model number is your S6 Lite? SM-P610 or SM-P615

@oldturkey03 Hi. It's the P610. I'm thinking to just sell it used for parts and somebody else can swap out the board or keep it running off the charger, whatever. I'm disgusted with Samsung now and don't really want to use their products anymore.

S Lewis since we really can’t be sure it is the charging circuit, I’d suggest you disassemble it and follow the troubleshooting according the what Samsung has to say. I know it’s tedious and a pain but maybe you can get it going again. these manuals should help you with that. Disassembly Reassembly SM P610Troubleshooting SM P610

Thank you. It is out of my range to get into circuit board repair. I can swap major parts like a screen or board or jack, but circuit tracing at the board level and replacing chips requires specialized skills.

Thanks so much for your technical help in providing the documentation. It's interesting to see and might help someone more skilled in computer circuitry.

I would hope that we could convince the companies to support their products instead of turning to an unreliable crude moisture indicator to deny support. I feel that this trend of using such indicators could stand to be examined by such a powerful and trusted technical voice as ifixit. Testing on these indicators' accuracy needs to be done by a consumer advocate and the technology, if used, needs to be refined so that it actually reflects interior moisture damage due to abuse.

We need to have the discussion in public that a percentage of people are denied legitimate warranty claim when these indicators do not actually indicate moisture damage but simply humid environments. Unless and until we speak out, they will continue to do the easiest thing, whether it's fair or not.

S Lewis I totally agree with you. Most of us on here support the Right-to-Report movement for that reason.
