Can I upgrade my battery from 35Wh to something like 45Wh to 55Wh?

After almost a year after purchase and 352 battery cycle later my battery is only giving around 2.5h of battery life. I whish to replace my battery now, however after going to lenovo’s website i came to know that i can replace by battery with a 45Wh instead of 35Wh. However i wanted to know if i can upgrade it to 55Wh and if so how can i install it myself, i dont know if opening the back panel will void the warranty.

Thank you for replying.

Your answer solved my queries, but as i was looking at the pictures of the 45Wh battery, i realized i would have to remove the hard drive and its mounting case in order to fit the larger 45Wh battery, making it barely fit.

As you mentioned it may void the warranty, if i go to a authorized service center and tell them to install it, then i think this will be a better option.

Also, Will it be better to order the battery through the service center or myself?

I don't know.

Maybe the service centre won't install it if they don't provide it. It also might void their guarantee (or warranty) on the battery because they could say if it failed for any reason within their guarantee period, that it is not one that they would use or something along those lines.

You would have to ask them.

Hi,

Do you know if a 55W battery will even physically fit into the laptop and if the battery cable is connected in the same place so that it will reach the motherboard’s battery connection? They may be the first things to know.

Looking at the parts for the laptop it only specifies the 35W and 45W models. (click on Select Commodity > Rechargeable Batteries and internal (9) to view al the options. If you decide on a 45W battery, search online using the part number only of the one you want, to find suppliers that suit you best.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop, taken from the laptop’s support webpage

Go to p.31 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the battery.

Here’s the warranty information for the laptop. On p.2 it gives information about battery replacement and on p.3 it says to go to the warranty lookup page to find out details about the warranty for your laptop. Presumably because the warranty can vary depending on what location you’re in or where the laptop was first purchased. In most places opening a laptop still covered by the warranty will void the warranty.
