Dolby vision looks dark

Hey there,

While watching Netflix or Apple TV on my MacBook Air 2019 or iPad Pro 11” 2nd generation, movies with dolby vision logo looks dimmer then HD movies.

I don't understand what's causing the issue. Had anyone else faced a similar issue Please let me know how to fix it?

Also, I have checked that my system and Netflix plan meet the requirement of playing 4K movies. I can see the logo as well but the movies are darker than normal HD movies.

Solução escolhida

Dolby Vision is a HDR (high dynamic range) encoding technology on how content is encoded to prevent washout or blackout conditions within a scene which has both elements present.

Sadly it does often reduce the brightness of a movie as the screen you are using doesn’t offer the needed range to give the content enough lumen space (nits)

Your screen should be able to reach high levels of brightness for good HDR performance. The bare minimum brightness that is expected from an HDR TV is 400 nits. However, for satisfactory performance, 600 nits or higher is recommended. TVs that can reach 800 nits or 1,000 nits can offer excellent HDR performance.

A laptop or tablet don’t need to be as bright for regular work but for HDR content needs more, you may get a headache from eye strain with such a bright screen so close!

Bottom line there is nothing you can change or correct.
