Back cover glued down

I’m attempting to remove the back cover of my laptop to replace the battery and cracked screen but it is glued down with the strongest adhesive tape I’ve ever encountered. I have the Essentials Toolkit but the Jimmy and Suction aren’t working. Any advice on using heat? I’ve never done that. Thanks!

Where did you get your system as you’ll need to find out its history and try to find out what they did. But, if it was glued … You’ll need to carefully cut the bottom cover off and get a replacement bottom cover.

That’s odd I just can’t understand anyone glueing it down! How about getting a plate glass suction cup which has a stronger grip! And use some solvent carefully dragging a wet cotton swab (Q-Tip) along the seam and the screw holes. It’s not quantity it’s the time it stays wet that counts!

Thanks! The machine is from Amazons refurbished department. I ending up using a hair dryer on low setting to soften the pieces of super sticky rubber like tape they’d used to tape down the back cover and it came off!

@Lauren Douglas - Wow! So they lost the screws? Tape or glue is the ticket! NOT!!

I want pictures! It's pretty unusual to glue in the bottom plate.

@danj I've seen it where someone put contact cement on a loose Dell LCD bezel before to hold it on after it probably came loose.

Somehow I got it off fine, but it was broken anyway so I could have broken it without consequence. Machine was purchased "as-is".

I've used Super Glue to repair palmrests with minor damage or minor chassis repairs, but I don't use it in lieu of a lost screw. If the part is compromised and I can never fix it reliably, I replace it...
