This Qualcomm AX500 Wifi does not work for me using Linux and I wanted to replace it with a Intel Wireless-AC 9260 (M.2 (PCIe)). However on the top left corner there is the card reader (green) where the Wifi module used to be.
Any change replacing the Wifi (red)? Is is soldered to the board or still an M.2 PCI card?

It might depend on which model XPS -15 you looked at when you say that the WLAN card was there before. Because the service manual shows that it is located where you have indicated and that the I/O board is in the top left corner. It’s always better to go with the service manual (or a teardown video) for the specific model variant, just to be sure unless the service manual is for the model series i.e. XPS 15. and it covers all the variants as sometimes happens.
Have you removed the cover exposing the WLAN card antenna cables’ connections to see if the WLAN card can be removed, you didn’t say? Your image shows the WLAN card with the antenna connections being covered.
In the systemboard replacement procedure on p.39 of the service manual the image shows the WLAN antenna connections on the card without the cover, but it is a bit hard to tell whether the card is hard mounted or not. The manual doesn’t say how to remove the card so the inference is that it is hard mounted as usually they do say if it can be removed, but maybe not. You can only check.
How do you propose to route the antenna cables to a WLAN card installed in the M.2 slot without possibly increasing the interference to the received signal from the systemboard? Antenna cables are carefully routed in a laptop to minimize any possible interference. Also would they be even long enough to reach?

Hi Andreas,
I have the same problem. Although I have the wireless adapter somewhat working after building the 5.10.1 kernel and installing firmware, wifi gets lost after suspend and a reboot seems to be needed.
I read the service manual, which shows how to completely dismantle the latop, but dos not say anything about removing the wifi card separately. Its quite frustrating, but I become more and more convinced that its soldered to the system board.
Have you learned anything in the meantime ?

@haa29 I am old so I confuse easy? You want to change the WiFi module on what device? What are you comparing this to? However on the top left corner there is the card reader (red) where the Wifi module used to be.

Apparently this thread is for a Dell XPS 15 9500. And when you do an Internet search for replacing the Wifi module on a Dell XPS 15 it will be located in top left. How you expect to answer this questing if you do not know all this? (Wifi is red and card reader green)

@haa29 no reason to become testy or wondering how I was going to answer. Obviously you are the one that has the motherboard and laptop right there so all you needed was to clarify what is on your board to see if you can change the WiFi board.
