How do I fix the R button on my right joycon?

I accidentally dropped my switch a couple of days ago, and now the R button on my right joycon won’t work. Is it jammed or do I need to replace it?

Most likely broken. If you open it you’ll see that the module is very small, and weak. It is just soldered on, no sort of reinforcement at all. Open it up and closely inspect the module, use a digital microscope if you have one. It could be anything from:

1) The plastic shoulder button broke on the inside, disassemble remove the plastic R button, press the module button with your finger and see if it works, if it does work replace the plastic R button.

2) The button module broke off of it’s solder joints, resolder.

3) The button module tabs broke, solder in new module.

4) PCB broke at the button module location, toast, get new pcb or new joycon.

Good luck.

if this happens again take off the back panel and then unscrew the plastic piece holding the battery while holding the r button so it doesn’t come apart if it does just put it back together but there should be a small rectangle with a rectangular button on it right below the r button if it is bent back try and push it so that the wight rectangle lines up with the green plate and it should work but if it is detached or 1-4 of the metal things holding it together are detached send it to Nintendo and they will fix it for free

Hey,

Unlike the (L), (ZL), (ZR) and (-) buttons, both the (+) and (R) buttons are not on separate tiny circuit boards connected through a flat cable to the main JoyCon board. Instead they’re soldered directly to the board (the (+) in the front and the (R) in the Top-Left on the back of the board).

Just changing the button is not easy as you need to remove the old one and solder a new one but it can be a headache because of the size and position of it.

If you can find a R-Joycon selling for 10-20$ that have problems with anything but the mainboard then you can just exchange it from one to the other.

If the shell colour is different then the colour it shows on the switch will be the Original Joycon shell colour. You have software online that you can use to change it to your original joycon colour (you need to connect the joycon to the pc via bluetooth) so when you slide it into the switch or go to the controller screen it shows the right one.
