bright scenes look pixelated and patchy?!

every time im watching a show or a youtube video, whenever theres a particularly bright scene (for example sun in the background) the area thats meant to be brightest goes weird and pixelated and blocky, im noticing this for the first time after just updating windows. any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ive tried my best to explain the situation but its hard to be clear. the bright patches look kind of like very white and blocky, like someones turned the contrast and clarity way up or something. its really annoying.

Have you got the latest video drivers installed in the laptop?

Have you tried connecting an external monitor and checked if the problem shows on there as well? Even a TV can be used as an external monitor if it has HDMI inputs and you have an appropriate cable to connect the two together. Press F10 to toggle between the two displays.

Have you checked the display settings, you didn’t say? Right click on the Windows desktop and click Display settings and check if altering any makes a difference
