What's the name of this monitor part? Can I replace it?

Hi all,

While setting up the VESA mount for my samsung monitor I damaged a bit of what I think is foil in the back of it, and now have lines on my screen, I’m wondering what this is called and if I can replace it ? Or if I should just order a new monitor now

Thanks

Jack

@jackdallas …heya, so the ribbon that is damages looks like the tab that goes to the panel display itself. typically when this happens, the entire display would need to be replaced. however, if you have the tools and the skills, you can possibly find a replacement ribbon either from a scrap tv or display. this will require tearing the units apart to access both sides of the ribbon to be able to de and re solder. the ribbons are easily destroyed if not careful so you may find scrapping and upgrading will be your best option if not taking it to a shop.

Oh %#*@, I think selling it for parts and buying a new one is my best option then, typical just got the rest of my setup perfect, thanks for the quick answer!

This is a TAB failure due to the flatflex damage or adhesive failure. Unless you can repair it, the repair is usually not worth doing as you will need to replace the LCD.

The other problem is in many (but not all cases) is the cost of a bare LCD vs. new monitor is often nearly the same, and rarely worth doing.
