How to remove the wireless network card

I want to isolate my Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 by removing the wireless network card. Is that possible? Where can I find it? I don’t mind “breaking” the connections if necessary.

Hi @karu28 ,

The tablet doesn’t have a separate WiFi card. The WiFi / BT chip is mounted onto the systemboard.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 Motherboard Replacement guide which will help you to open the tablet if you want to check.

Alternatively here’s a link that describes how to permanently disable WiFi without resorting to hardware solutions.

I was thinking in cutting one of the pins that connect to the motherboard. Is that not possible? If yes, I just need to know where the chip is located and how I remove the metal cap that protect the components.

Hi,

As I don't know where the chip is located you would have to remove the shields which may be soldered to board mounts (not totally sure of this) and then find the chip by searching online using the component data printed on each chip.

Once you have located the chip on the systemboard search for the datasheet for the chip.

This should tell you which pin to cut, usually the pin designated as Vcc should do as this is the pin that feeds power to the chip.

It may not be easy to cut just one pin as they are extremely close to each other and you'd have to make sure that it was a clean break and that there were no short circuits left after the cut that may impact on something else that you may want.

Going the software route as described in the link above is a lot less intrusive and safer and hey, you may want the WiFi to work again one day and if you've physically damaged the chip then it will have to be replaced etc.

You need to post some pics of the board to see. Alternatively look for the antenna connections - in gold.
