When I plug in my headphones they work fine except that the speaker on the tablet does not shut off. Have tried several headphones and checked some obvious setting but nothing seems to correct the problem

tripld sounds like a stuck headphone jack. Sometimes a bit of 90%+ isopropyl alcohol (1-2 drops only) and moving a headphone connector in and out of the jack may free it up.
