Do the front glass need replacing or is there another way?

The digitizer/screen unit is working fine when connected to the phone but it’s missing the recent key & back key decal and black adhesive (?) part at the bottom of the inside screen; same for parts of the top of the inside screen.

Do I need to replace the front screen in order to replace the missing decals and black parts or is it possible to just buy some “patch” that would cover what’s missing. I hate the idea of buying a cheap screen to replace this Gorilla 3 with no scratches on it.

I hope it’s all making sense.

Thanks in advance for an answer.

@rodeo_clown unless you have the tools and the experience to separate the digitizer/glass from the screen, you would have to change the whole display. These are hard to separate at the best of time and you run the risk of breaking it without the experience. Of course if nothing else maybe you can send it off to someone who can do that for you.

@oldturkey03 Thanks for the quick reply!

I do have tools to separate the digitizer from the front glass although my experience in separating the digitizer from the front glass is limited. I learn fast and have experience working with electronics. Worst comes to worst I would just get a new digitizer/glass unit and install it.

I use this phone for backpacking, cycling, hiking, climbing, etc. and dropped it a few times, chipping the body's paint and separating parts (corners) of the front glass from the digitizer. The back battery cover and USB charger cover have been changed several times already. The front glass is intact though; no breaks, no scratches. I'd like to keep the original front glass on the S5 because it's my experience that pretty much all replacement parts (for most phone brands) out there are subpar, even though they are "well-rated" or supposedly OEM, etc.

If I was to order a new front glass, what would be the difficulty of peeling/unglue the decal from it and place it on my glass?
