LCD screen scratched on Lumix DMC-FZ18
The screen on my DMC-FZ18 camera is scratched. I thought that it needed a new LCD, but after dismantling, I found that it is the “window” part of the rear case that has the scratch.
Questions:
- Are replacement parts available?
- Is there an easy way to test whether it is plastic or glass?
- Is Cerium Oxide paste safe to use to polish out the scratches?
More details including photographs here .

Thanks for that reply. I had already decided to risk using cerium oxide which worked quite well, and then used a plastic polish for a final finish. The result is as good as I could expect given the initial deep scratches.
I had already updated the description.

Well good for you. We do not read updates on questions from iFixit on external Blogs. Questions are being answered on here and should also find the solutions on here. Anything else could be considered spam, which I am certain is not your intend.

I don't really understand your objection. The blog entry was directly relevant and contained exactly the sort of detail expected on ifixit and contained links back to ifixit. The question was genuine, and my own repair was only attempted when I received no (quick) answer. I am still hoping for a reply explaining how to obtain a replacement rear case or screen.
I did consider contributing a partial teardown of the DMC-FZ18 to ifixit, but because I had to use an old limited camera, most of the photographs were pretty poor. The few decent pictures were on the blog, but that is not very complete. But still useful, I hope, to others with DMC-FZ18s.
