You really can't fix it without opening it. MacBook Core 2 Duo Left I/O Frame Replacement You may be able to remove the broken tip once you take the left I/O board out. On some of these you can pull the center bracket on the back of the sound port out enough to use tweezers or small needle nose pliers to grasp the broken tip. I use a small hemostat. Look in the battery compartment for your exact machine and we can lead you to the correct repair guide to do this. And the part if you can't get the tip out.

This port isn't like the MBP. I torn your model apart to try to help. The metal covering can be torn off with care and the top plastic piece removed. Then by lifting the center contact, access can be gained to the interior of the port. This does ruin the covering but might be preferable to a logic board replacement.

Dear Mayer,

If I cannot get the tip out, I will need to replace the entire I/O frame I guess. Is this correct? Where do I get this. I do not see it among the parts that are listed for the MacBook.

Thanks.

Paul.

Ahh grasshopper, first remove the tip. Tomorrow has its own worries.

My friend, I have now opened the Mac a couple of times, only to discover that the receptacle for the broken pin is soldered onto the motherboard. It has no openings apart from the opening that is used by the broken pin. What are my options, apart from replacing the motherboard? Thanks.

i had the same problem on my acer netbook.

what i did to take out the sound tip is i used a 15 minute epoxy (any auto parts store should carry it) and a paper clip

simply cut about 1.5 inches or wire from the paper clip, and with a piece of sand paper scrath the tip of the paper so the epoxy will have something to stick to. prepare the 15 minute epoxy (just a drop) dip the wire in the epoxy but not to much or you will end up getting it on the receptacle and ruin it. touch the broken off piece with the epoxy diped wire and let it set.

your going to have to be pacient on this one. after its touching the broken piece give 24 hours to fully harden.

after that the end piece should come out with ease

hope this helps you

good luck.
