Mircophone doesn't work just gets static

I've got an 8GB iPod touch from the Exchange and there's one issue with it... the Mic doesn't work and if I try to record or use it with the camera it just does static and nothing is coming out.

So where's the mic's location and do I need to replace the Camera too? I need answers before I crack open the iPod Touch and I can't replace it and I'm screwed big time.

This is a white Bezel model too not the original black bezel.

The microphone is built into the logic board and is not easily replaceable. Your problem may just be the microphone hole which is dirty with lint and other gunk. You could try to clean out the microphone hole first to see if that helps.

Beyond that, unless you view fixing this device as a fun project, it doesn't really make sense financially to replace the logic board.

And….how do you clean the mic on an air pod? I tried using a q-tip and it made things worse. I can’t locate anywhere info on what to use, and how to clean them!!!
