My device will no longer turn on

Before the G751JY would sometimes attempt to turn on and then shut off after 5 - 10 seconds. But it would turn on after 3 or 5 tries. Now it will not turn on at all. The device is not overheating. When i was able to turn it on it ran normally with no hindrances to operational speeds. I am not sure what to do.

Hi @mraizakku ,

Do you get any LED indications on the laptop when you connect the charger and turn the charger on?

Does it try to turn on with the charger connected and switched on?

If it does try to start with the charger connected can you hear or feel that the fan is running?

Has the laptop been dropped or have liquid spilled onto it at all?

Hi @jayeff ,

When attempting to startup the laptop i would press the power button. The power button and all the LEDs on the keyboard light up for a moment. Then the light bulb looking indicator stays on while the others go away. A couple seconds later the device turns off again and with it the power button light and the light bulb indicator. I can also hear the DVD drive receive power and start to spin and click as it turns off with the rest of the device.

If i attempt to turn on the laptop 30-50 times it very rarely boots up completely. When it turns on the device works perfectly. It even goes into sleep mode and wakes up from that fine. It is when i shut down the device or attempt to restart it when it has a super hard time turning on.

Hi @mraizakku ,

You never said whether you had the charger connected when you try to turn it on.

Hello, Yes. I removed both the battery and power adapter, held the power button for 60 seconds and attempted to power on the device with battery alone, did the same with adapter alone and then tried again with battery and adapter. Still the same results - device will very rarely actually turn on but 95% of the time will attempt to turn on and then shut off.

I had the same problem, and removed the HDD & DVD Drive…and it came on! Straight to BIOS. But now, I’m not sure what this means. Do I replace the HDD & DVD drives with new ones?

Solução escolhida

Hi @mraizakku ,

OK. Back to basics.

Remove the following from your laptop:

The HDD and the ODD (DVD drive) and anything plugged into the USB ports etc. Leave only the power adapter, the motherboard, the RAM and obviously the battery, the LCD screen and the keyboard connected.

You now have a bare bones laptop.

See if it starts. (If it starts and stays on, then you should end up with a black screen with a message about unable to boot etc or you should be able to access the BIOS menus by pressing the Del (or perhaps F2 not sure) key during POST startup of laptop.

If it doesn't start, then if it has more than 1 module of RAM, remove other RAM modules and leave only 1 stick installed. (Always disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery when removing/disconnecting RAM and other components from the motherboard)

See if it starts.

If it doesn't start, swap the RAM with another module or try another RAM slot(s)

See if it starts.

If it doesn't start then you have a motherboard problem.

Here is a link to the ifixit Asus ROG G751JL-BB17T29 guide which may be of some help in disconnecting components.

So, this worked and I was able to use my laptop all night. I cleaned it up with ccleaner and Norton (it hasn't turned on in 6 months). But after deleting several large games and start up programs, When I “Restarted" it worked, but when I “turn off" it didn't make a blink. I tried again without the HDD and DVD drive and a combination thereof, but no dice.

I thought I had the solution, but now I'm wondering if it was just a stroke of luck?
