iPhone 7 screen on iPhone 8?

So, I own a repair shop. a customer came in with a broken iphone 8.

I have looked at the iphone 7 screen and the pictures of an iphone 8 screen + the teardown of the iPhone 8.

From my understanding the screens are exactly the same.

Thoughts?

I work for a phone repair shop, and can confirm that I have gotten an iPhone 7 Plus screen to work on an iPhone 8 Plus by trimming the plastic tabs at the top of the screen and using the adhesive that comes with the screen. There were no issues. The iPhone 8 Plus booted up and works perfectly fine.

por

Correct! I have just repaired a friends iPhone 8 screen while he told my it was an iPhone 7 and used an iPhone 7 screen and everything worked fine. Checked the camera, speakers, touch, colours and booting.

When you install the iPhone 7 LCD screen on the iPhone 8, the phone will stick on the Apple LOGO with a white screen. Here is the video: https://youtu.be/KxFovnbcY3E?t=311

Exactly, they just looks similar but still difference in some inner small parts that you cant see

por

The size of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 LCD screen connectors are not the same. Install the screen wrong may cause some issue, here is my article about the issue and how to fix it:https://www.etradesupply.com/blog/how-to...

por

well i can confirm that the iphone 8 screen connectors work on an iphone 7 . if you think it hangs at Apple logo, just wait 4 mins 10 seconds to get to home screen

por

This is actually not quite accurate. What most people do is test screens before adding back the home button. On an iPhone 8/8 plus, you MUST attach the home button or it will not boot. It will display the Apple logo only. Regardless of which screen you use. Bottom line: a 7/7 plus screen WILL work on an 8/8 plus phone, but it will not FIT. move the home button before testing.

por

Iphone 7 and iphone 8 have differ screen beacause the home button and the screen on iphone 8 is attach to the phone and if iphone 8 home buttom broken than the whole phone is broken

Unfortunately they are not the same, while the connector will most likely fit it won't work.

The iPhone 8 screen fits and works with iPhone 7. I installed an 8 screen on an iPhone 7 by mistake and the home butron didn't work. I tried anoyher 8 screen and same again. I then tried the first iPhone 8 screen again and it worked fine. The backing plate doesn't fit perfectly as the screw holes sit a little to high. The screen does work but I don't recommend it simply due to a possibly temperamental home button..

por

Yeah the aftermarket ones will do that, original ones will get stuck on apple logo.

por

They are the same. Look at them under a microscope or magnifier. Same number of pins on the display flex cables, same home button pass throughs and same exact negative space where earpiece speaker and proximity sensor/FF cam sits at top of display. Period.

The iPhone 7 Plus has plastic hinges on top that hold it down to the housing. The iP8 has metal connection “squares” like on the sides, where it slides into housing holding brackets. Just look at the top, it’s hard to explain but if you see the difference you’ll know immediately. I don’t know how you would be able to put a seven screen on an eight phone, And vice versa, you can’t.

I was actually just testing this last night as i own a repair business.

iphone 7 and iphone 8 both original screens .

my way of testing iphone 7 screens (mine all use the original apple lcd and touchscreen) is to attach the screen only , no front camera or home button. It will appear to boot loop but it takes 4 mins 10 seconds to get eventually to home screen . During some of this time i use it to check for any visual defects on LCD.

now my findings were the iphone 8 screen booted up in the same time 4 mins 10 seconds on the iphone 7. LCD fine but touchscreen not working at all.

HOWEVER........ it has only came to light that ios 11.3 is preventing iphone 8 users that have had a COPY screen on their iphone 8 now have no touch. Copy screens worked fine on previous ios.

i am wondering if the iphone 8 touchscreen would work on my iphone 7 if the 7 did not currently have ios 11.3 installed . I would bet my bottom dollar the touchscreen would operate as normal.

Well I need help my iPhone 8 Plus was repaired by a man who says he put an 8 plus screen but the hinges are bent inside of my iPhone and it was stuck on the boot loop for 45 minutes then when it turned on the home button no longer worked then hours after it has been on a boot loop for 2 weeks what do I do

por

Have you had a chance to test this again now that the new software update it out? Thanks

por

Hey Cassy Lee I’ve seen that issue a lot . It happens when the receptor that’s built into the screen that connects to the home button is faulty . It causes the phone to go into boot loop eventually turning on only to find out the home button is not functioning . Go to another repair shop have them put in a new screen with a good receptor and it should get it going . Unless the repair man damaged by the home button

por

If you use an Eprom tool to copy over the data the screen will still function there is a series of numbers that the main logic board checks if are applied to the screen, An Eprom allows you to copy the data from the old screen once you plug it into the eprom and then unplug the old screen and plug the new into it... hit paste. this eprom is required for fixing iPhone 8s on up. Also there is a way to replace the home button and proximity cables (in the case of the X up) without losing function of either the home button, or the facial recog. This involves replacing a chip located on the home button/proximity cable with the one removed from the old one. This repair is not easy and not for the DIYer as it involves complex soldering methods and hot air rework.

BEWARE IPHONE 8 SCREENS ON EBAY!

I bought from two different sellers. One from China and on in the US. (Of course, I sorted by lowest price). When i installed the screens, the phone was boot looping over and over. Couldn't figure out why, until it occurred to me that the screens looked exactly like iPhone 7 screens. So I put the old cracked screen back on the iPhone 8 and it worked fine. Then, I tested the screens with an iPhone 7 and... ALL OF THEM WORKED.

The US seller gave me a shipping label and apologized, but the Chinese seller argued with me and insisted that I broke the screens or was doing it wrong. I have a pending eBay case... He did not get good feedback.

Chinese sellers arguing with the customer despite their clear error is a pretty common occurence in my experience. I've learned to avoid ordering expensive items unless the seller has a proven track record (with me) of customer support.

por

Perhaps the seller is right some iphone 8s are experiencing issues with having their screens replaced this is occurring after an IOS update where the screen must have a series of numbers that are on the original screen copied over to the new screen EPROM tools do this... Mobile centrix has one for like $45 and is as simple as plugging the eprom into a lightening cable, then plug the old screen in hit copy... then unplug the old and plug in the new and hit paste. this should fix the issue of screens not working. Note that since the ios update above this should be done to all iPhone 7 and greater models

Installed iPhone 8 screen into iPhone 7 (friend insisted it was an iphone8). Came to realize it was actually an iPhone 7, and the iPhone 8 screen in works just fine, other than the fact it has these rectangular metal “squares” rather that plastic tabs like on iPhone 7…

What do you mean when you say it has metal squares rather than plastic

por

There are metal tabs on the top of the screen to clip it into place on the iPhone 8.

The iPhone 7 uses plastic hook in clips at the top instead meaning you would need to break the metal clips on top to install the screen.

Personally I would stick to the same model screen to avoid problems.

Maybe not on purpose, but an eight screen WILL work on a seven device.

The frames are different. That’s all. The eight series may have a extra feature or two, but it will work on the seven in a pinch. Little adhesive up top

i can boot my iphone 8 plus screen on my iphone 7 plus with no issues, touch works great, no lag, no boot loop. but the screen is physically different. the phones also share call speaker and front camera assembly, allthough not sure the proximity sensor etc are the same internals but they plug up to the iphone 7 and 8 and you can take them from a 7 screen and transfer all parts o 8 physically

Update (01/12/2019)

just to conclude here, i changed screen, front camera flex and front speaker again, and it worked, i have a feeling it was either the screen blocking proximity sensor or a faulty earpiece speaker

I also own a mobile phone accessory company, The Fone Stuff. I have faced similar enquiries from some customers. I have to say it almost never works. The internal connectors are slightly different in the two phone models and even if you can somehow make the screen operational, it is going to face major lags.

Hope this helps!

Apple has never made anything as far as a device or mobile unit in which parts were interchangeable between different models!

They would never do that! And definitely not with the 2013-2017 Macbook Air model of devices. Those things were a true reincarnation with every iteration.
