Soaked in Window Cleaner

I have a 2nd gen iPod touch. The machine is about three years old and there's no warranty on it.

I had it connected to my lap top this morning and I went to the bathroom, not even thinking that my three year old would put her hands on it. Suffice to say, I was wrong.

When I got back from the bathroom, my kid had doused the iPod in window cleaner. At first I thought it was just on the surface, so I proceeded to wipe the liquid off. As I was doing this, the screen took on the look of snow camouflage. There were patches of whites and grays all over it.

I freaked out and pushed the menu button which resulted in a row of white horizontal lines running down the screen, before the display went completely blank.

Plugging it in does nothing, pushing the buttons does nothing either.

I have no clue where to even begin with this. And I know this is stupid question, because I'm pretty sure I know what the answer will be, but is there a way to fix this without opening up?

Is there a way to open it up without tools?

crimsonicegoddess, don't beat yourself up over it:) it happens to the best of us. first do not turn it on. put it in a bag of uncooked rice and leave it in at least for a couple of days. then you can get the tools to open it up while you wait for it to dry out. open it up and let it dry out some more. My number one suggesting after that is to clean the board with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry out some more, replace the battery and see what it does. Do not tryto start it up or to plug it inwhile it is dryingout. that is the main problem right now. Once you exchanged the battery let us know what happens. I found that if anything goes, it is the 1. battery 2. lcd screen 3. logic board and due to cost restraints that is the way i replace my parts. Now from your description I would problem go ahead and replace the LCD as well. BUT LET IT DRY OUT FIRST. GOOD LUCK

+ what type of window cleaner? Windex contains ammonia and will eat it up. Sprayway does not and is good for cleaning screens. Check the contents and act accordingly.

Ammonia can be used for etching copper. Open it up and use "Distilled water" and get it off as soon as possible.

It was a generic brand. But the sticker on the back says it has ammonia in it.
