Correct glue for replacement screen?

I'm replacing my Google Pixel screen, and Amazon recommended I get "Eco-Fused adhesive sticker tape, 2mm". The tape works alright, it took a little bit of layering for a few recessed areas. The first time, the bottom of my screen wouldn't stay in for longer than 30 seconds. Long story short and 4 revisions later, I've gotten the screen to remain fully attached... mostly. The bottom and sides still sit 1/2 to 1/4 of a millimeter above the case edge (was flush with the factory screen), and I know it could be doing better because I can press soon the screen and it will squish back into complete compliance for another minute or so.

As it is now, the screen is functional and the phone has spent a full night in between the bottom of my mattress and my bed slats. Since heating the phone is necessary for removing a screen, does this eco-fused tape need to be heated as well after being applied in order to stick fully and firmly? Should I be using a different adhesive? Since I don't own a heat gun OR a hair dryer... Would the oven work, set to 175 F°?

Solução escolhida

The tape isn't strong enough.

What I used for a Google pixel XL screen replacement is Tesa 61395 tape which is really strong and b7000 liquid glue to fill in the weak spots or gaps where there is no tape I could put in due to curved areas like corners.

Thank you for the tape recommendation! I'm scared to use liquid glue, as the metal underneath the screen has a lot of holes into the motherboard and battery housing. Is it non-conductive, and soluble, in case I need to get back into the phone later?

por

It's non conductive and easy to remove from rubbing off.

When it is set it is still easy to remove the screen as well.

por

Awesome! Thank you!

so i replaced new digitizer and when i restart it, it just shows that charging bolt. nothing happening beyond that. Please help if u can

por

Did you remove just the LCD ribbon cable or did you also get to the board area to unplug the battery?

I did have one case where I flipped the charging ribbon cable upside to the logic board on accident which caused a short circuit and not allow it to turn on.

Otherwise just let the phone charge for a bit it may be that the battery is very flat and just needs to charge up more.

Tesa 61395 double sided tape right? I usually apply onto screen frame and cut off the excess.

Once you have done filling the spots to stick the screen peel the protective white cover off the tape and go from there.

Make sure you are using ideal tape widths to fill wider or thinner areas for adhesive.

por

thanks a lot.

por

Do i really need to put tesa 61395 tape the back cover only is what i want tighten. ? I already have b7000 glue.

por

Back cover? Are you replacing that too? I don't know what adhesive to use for that.

That B7000 glue is good, easy to control the flow too, and doesn't dry like super glue so it's not brittle when dry.

glue is very dangerous. Today i've damaged a lcd+digitizer cause of it (T8000). 3M biadesive tape is much better and strong enough

por

All I can guess is too much b7000 glue was used it it seeped behind the screen.

But strong adhesive itself is strong enough like you said.

por

Simple answer is, don't put too much on.

Been using this stuff on screen repairs and back glass replacements for years, and not a single issue.

I think you'll be surprised with how little you need.

por

How can I remove the screen again after using this glue? A heat gun would work?

Btw, I see on some Youtube video to use E8000 (not T8000) glue.
