I briefly did some digging and the following is to factory reset :

  1. Turn on your UE Boom.
  2. Hold down the volume down button and the power button at the same time until you hear a sound. Your UE Boom will then turn off.
  3. Turn it back on and try to pair it with your device again.

If it is below 7.0.0 I can try find the email exchange I had with tech support and get you download link.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with crackling sounds. I discovered I had base boosted my Spotify equaliser settings too much.

Switched back to a suggested option and it was fine.

Cheers Tom Wright. Tried all that mate. Turned out to be a knackerd one. Off Amazon but Fairplay to em, they sent a new one out and then asked me to send the knackered one back so all good. Got two boom 2's and getting the megaboom pukka sound. Love my music, that's our stereo in our house. And our system in the garden in the summer. For the size, the money, the sound there the nuts. Cheers fella

I had always thought my megabboom 3 bass sounded punchy/distorted or was clipping on deep bass tracks and anything over half volume sounded poor in general. I even returned it to apple and got a new one. Same problem. THEN I thought to go in to iphone settings under music and I turned the EQ OFF. I think it was set on ROCK or R&B. Immediately the sound was brighter, louder and the bass was fixed!!!!!!!

por

EQ SETTINGS !!?? WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT. Thank you for the fix 😊😊

I have had a pair of these speakers for 5+ years let me start by saying they sound great when linked to the app using an iPhoneX. Since it’s onset, the app has been upgraded a few times and is much better than its original iteration.

I have the buzzing and cannot figure out how to stop it as a matter of fact … even with disconnecting the speakers from:

themselves via the app

forgetting the device on Bluetooth

and actually turning off power on the device they buzz if they are plugged in. That’s right the physical power button depressed no lights on and ….buzzing only while plugged in.

I also have issues with connecting to the satellite speaker when using the app. It will hesitate for up to 30 seconds and sometimes drops the second speaker once connected.

When trying to power down the main speaker from the app with only the “main” speaker powered up… the app will notify me that I will be ending a party up session. Which I just ended by disconnecting the satellite speaker in the app.

Update (05/06/2019)

It has been several additional months since my last post ...These UE Boom speakers continue popping. I contacted UE Boom customer service and they provided me with trouble shooting instructions.

I have tried all of these steps TWICE now with no change in the popping.

In short still great sounding speaker when they are working... unfortunately I do not recommend purchasing any UE Boom speakers ..... it is 2019 and I have been struggling with this popping for years. I am tired of pairing and in pairing several times a day... it is EXTREMELY poor CS and QA.

Here is their final reply:

“Good day Joe!

Thank you for responding and sorry if the troubleshooting steps we provided didnt resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the devices are already out of warranty and we dont have a repair service for our devices. What we can offer is a 30% discount code that you can use on our website. Please let us know if you want the discount code for us to submit a request for it. Thank you!”

Yes. I'm very disappointed in the quality of these speakers.. especially for the price... it barely surpasses the sound of my $20 Basic Amazon unit..

por

**ANSWER **

UE Boom speakers when they work sound good (7 out of 10) with little low register capability.

I had difficulties connecting 2ea 1st Gen speakers for YEARS .

customer service was dismal at best the final solution was, I threw them in the garbage and purchased a SONOS system. This daily stressor was absolutely, 100% solved.

I too have the same crackling problem even after troubleshooting the annoying crackling noise is still there. Please advise..

I purchased a brand new ue megaboom, crackled from day.

They refunded me my money so I thought I'd pull it apart (what a bit*ch that was).

After checking all connections, swapping the speaker's around, I determined it was definitely a speaker hardware issue.

Thoroughly inspected the cone causing the trouble and found that the rubber ring surrounding the cone, was not glued all of the way around.

I assume this is a widespread issue due to so many other having similar issues that couldn't be rectified with that standard software trouble shooting.

I ran a thin bead of super glue around the rim of the cone, set the rubber gently onto it, then another light bead around again once the first had dried.

Popped it back together and BOOM!

Problem solved.

Hope this helps others.

P.s. Dont expect it your speaker to ever be waterproof again.

These speakers are pretty tricky to pull apart without breaking.

I'd say your speaker is cactus ?.

Mine had this issue from day 1. The supplier refunded me 100% of myoney and told me to just throw out the speaker, but I enjoy pulling apart everything far too much to throw it out.

After watching a tutorial on how to remove the waterproof casing (it will never be waterproof or dustproof again). I discovered the the speaker cone and front surround suspension was not fully glued (I assume this was a factory fault, and a widespread one at that).

I ran a thin bead of super glue around the rim of the speaker cone and secured the rubber suspension to it, let it dry, re construct speakers and case and viola!

Haven't had any further issues with the speaker since.

Fair bit of stuffing around involved to pull it apart but may we worth giving it a go if it's heading for the bin anyway.

Don’t do what the best answer said if you have a run boom 1st gen. it screwed up my speaker by pressing all 4 buttons like they said and now it won’t even turn on anymore. It’s the same as the second gen speaker, volume down and power button to factory reset. Don’t listen to the top answer.

Hi all so sorry to be so late to the party!

I’ve have had my UE Boom and I wanna say the first one I had the cracking issue to I took it apart and while troubleshooting it i found that the crackling stops so long as its charging…

Changed out the battery and noticed that when the battery got to about half full because of my UE Booms age I guess something inside decided it didn’t have enough juice now were gonna pump out music still just horrible sounding xD but plug it into my electric bikes phone charger and bam back to sounding like awesome not sure if it will help anyone here but my speaker is still going very strong for I wanna say 10 years now!

If anyone needs help pulling there UE Boom apart I recommend looking up teardown videos or I’ll check back here if anyone has any questions for me but otherwise I found no tears or significant dents and nothing stuck in my speakers sensitive bits so its odd that mine seems to correct itself when extra power is added maybe give that a shot?

Let me mo if that helps please and thank you

I did that also but it’s not to long and even put charger while using and if you max the volume it will cracking again, but i have idea maybe we have to replace the capacitor that’s what I think

In theory, I love these speakers, but for longer than I can remember they crackle for 2 or 3 seconds every few minutes no matter what they're connected to, no matter where I am, no matter the volume, etc.

Reset does nothing, firmware upgrade does nothing, turning wireless on/off does nothing. It's a joy killer.

I had the problem with the secondary speaker in party mode crackled. We found that moving them closer together fixed it. The phone Bluetooth connects to the primary speaker, then the primary Bluetooths to the secondary. The built-in Bluetooth antennas must be very underpowered, the max range was ~10ft
