Monitor & Viewfinder Quirks

Recently my LX-100 screens gain is excessive causing watercolors effect. If I bump the camera things return to normal. I cleaned battery & camera contacts but didn't help. Screens have an orange(ish) tint when this happens. Also Menu text is hard to read until you bump the camera. Seems something internal is loose or poor contact.? I have searched online with no results...hoping someone has an answer. Feel free to contact me (above) with any suggestions...no warranty yet want to fix the camera.

Thanks in advance

Solução escolhida

Hi,

Do the pictures come out OK when the LCD screen shows incorrect colouring?

If so, it may be that either the LCD screen has a loose connection or is faulty.

Here is a link to the ifixit repair guide for the LCD screen in the camera.

If the connection seems OK you may have to replace the screen if only to prove whether the problem is with the screen or further in the camera e.g. the motherboard.

Here is a link to just one supplier of the screen (it isn't cheap). It is not a recommendation to use them, it is shown to give an idea of the price.

Hopefully this is of some help.

Thanks for the rapid reply...forgot to say images are fine just VF/Monitor issues. When this happens if I use +/- EC comp it helps to correct the display gain. Thanks for the links..I'd be like a bull in a china closet doing the repairs but do want my camera working properly again. Seems more like a bad connection than a bad LCD screen as all is normal once it gets a proper connection via hand bump. Makes me wonder if the camera contacts to the motherboard are the problem.?

Thanks for your help & any further suggestions!

Hi,

As you say it seems like something is not connecting properly as adjustments overcome the problem. Unfortunately I believe that the only way to find out is to open the camera and initially check all the motherboard flex cable connections (with the battery removed of course) and if they look OK to re-seat them, i.e. disconnect / reconnect the flex cables and see if the problem is resolved.

When you say bump the camera to rectify it does bumping the camera make it happen as well?

I did remove the back cover & checked things out but found nothing. I wasn't quite up to removing the motherboard to check deeper.

Yes bumping the camera will create the over gain on the monitors.

Plan on taking it out for photos tomorrow & see if the problem persists. It seems to work here indoors but then once out taking photos it acts up.

Thanks for the nudge to tear into it...it still works so I didn't do more harm.

Hi David,

Don't know if the following might help or not.

Try tapping very gently and lightly (if that is not one and the same ;-) ) with the handle of a screwdriver at various places around the camera and see if you can make it happen and therefore localize the problem area. It may not work as the vibrations might travel anyway but then again it might and if it does then you are a step further. Just a thought.

Hi Jayeff,

The camera did not act up today while out taking photos. Bumping with the hand or screwdriver has no affect now. I "assume" shifting things around removing the back cover brought back good contacts again.? Before I could even rotate the camera & it might cause the monitor issues.

I guess it's fixed for now & thank you for our insight & help with your posts.

I may need more help later on if troubles recur & would enjoy your help then.

Best Regards,

David Ward
