I recently installed new superdrive and the eject seems a little rough and the CD isn't being fully ejected. It's only being ejected 2".. what can the problem be?

If you haven't yet opened the drive do so and check that the protective felt on the left side of the drive is not lose or wrinkled. If it is re-glue it securely.

I think that this is down to the drive you installed rather than the macbook itself, you could try putting the drive in another computer to see if it does the same. If it does you can either live with it or get a new drive that works better.

Its a new drive, i ordered direct. not ebay.
I didn't say you bought it off ebay, it could still be faulty brand new.

Towards the end of the eject theres almost a hesitation and studdering sound.

ooops, its in the wrong field but u get the picture. Thats not a full eject.
Can you pull the disc out or is it still held in by the drive?
I can pull it out but its tougher than it used to be cause i cant grip the cd, then i have to put a little extra force to insert or pull the cd out.

Does the drive attempt to push the disk fully out? (does the motor spin even when the disk doesn't come out?)

yes it does, it makes a funny sound then stops.
When it gets the distance shown above it gives a extra push and makes a funny sounds then stops. When insering the cd the first half of the cd goes in just fine but the second half of the cd i have to push it in with a little force before it passes a certain threshhold then the drive takes it in.

Maybe you could try taking the drive out, and putting it back in, there's a chance you put it in awkwardly or slightly disoriented.

Thanx for the suggestions guys. Will remove and reinstall and check for any abnormalities.

So this would be a continuation of your earlier problem (the malformed drive)?

yes but the drive has its original topcase now. i had the edges machined down so the 868A can fit into the macbook. The malformed topcase was from my old superdrive. The problem was that the new superdrive did not fit due to the protrusions on the corners. so i temporarily switched the superdrives topcase with my older one which was deformed. This caused an awkward eject. Now that i put the new original topcase the eject is parallel to the machine but rough and not fully ejecting
