Same thing happened to me. Can it be repaired?

I checked online nobody sold a charging port for the Bose sound link color so I called Bose and spoke to them about getting it repaired they told me they don’t repair them he asked me for the serial number off of it and lucky me mine was still under the warranty. I sent mine back they sent me the new model that is out which is the sound link II color. Good luck hoping they will do the same for you. It doesn’t hurt to call them.

por

think the reason they don’t repair them is because it no longer available it’s a older model if it was a newer model maybe

por

also checked eBay Thought if I bought a cheap one that was broken I could take the part out it and solder it in mine . but most of them on eBay probably have the same problem . Not worth taking a chance.

@sharpie75 and @mharrisonline take a look at this guide. Step 6 shows the port soldered onto the board. So it would not be easy. You could try and purchase a broken Bose SoundLink Color and harvest the port from it. Or you could possibly pigtail a separate charging port to it. This will depend on your soldering skills etc. If you can, post some images of the damage (disassembled) with your question. For that use this guide. That would allow us to see what you see and possibly point out where to solder to.

If anyone will have a deep battery discharge, the speaker can stopped to be charged at all. It is necessary to connect speaker with a cable to phone, press button turn on for like 10s. Still holding disconnect cable and then release the button. It should then start charging again, a quick crazy fix. I mention this because if port was broken the battery wasn't charged for some time and it is possible that deep battery discharge happened. The manufacturer obviously forgot to mention that such thing can happen. It is also possible to update the system when speaker is connected to PC and then Google "update bose speaker online". You go to bose website, download a program and then it is updated. Either update through PC, 10s trick or both - solved my problem. I couldn't charge my battery at all it was remaining on 5% max while connected to a wall socket, no update through phone was possible.

Thank you! I thought my Bose Soundlink Color 2 $150 speaker was a lost cause, but I tried your suggestion and it worked! I updated it using the website https://btu.bose.com/ . I had to create an account, but it was no big deal. Thank you so much!

Hi Audrey. I wasn't sure if anyone will read it so I am really happy that it helped you. I wonder how many speakers are thrown out every year because of it. Greetings from Poland.

Agree, I thought there was nothing I could do to fix the charging port on my Bose water resistant speaker but I pressed the power button for 10s (tbt I held each down one at a time) but did the power button last and I didn't think it did anything and I left it alone, came back to it minutes later and it's charging. I haven't been able to use it in a year. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you Slavomir, t worked on my Bose. I did both, 10s and updated the Driver. The Red blinking came on and after 2 hours of charging BINGO.

thank you from saving me throwing it away.

Within the next week, I am going to bypass the original charging port. And going to pigtail a new usb port.

Just trying to figure out the best procedure. I have over 30 years of repairing pcb components.

I finally got the right tips and opened the case; I need to replace the original port as well, but I am not as experienced as you.

What approach do you suggest? My current idea: melting the plastic with the iron tip until the contacts of the USB port are visible, and then solder a new port/cable on top of that.

por

I would be surprised if simply pigtailing a new mini USB port would work. On the first generation Sound Link Color the port is part of a larger I/O enclosure that can’t be opened. It appears to be putting out both 5V and 3.3V, so it’s more complicated than just replacing the port.
