flashing red light won't turn off

the red blinking light on my phone indicating I have a message has been on for the past 2 years. Ever since I changed my phone line to an internet based line, the light won't stop blinking which wears down the battery quickly. Please explain how to turn this light off.

After you listen to your messages, the message icon turns off. If it doesn't,

you can reset it: With the phone in standby, open the menu and select

Global Setup; select VMWI Reset, then select Yes.

Hi

I've tried that and it hasn't worked

The only way to temporarily clear the message envelope is to go into Global Setup and do a VMWI Reset. But the message envelope keeps coming back.

I assumed the problem was caused by MessageBank because of interrupted dial tone. Set up MessageBank for first time since connecting to NBN. Flashing light continued and interrupted tone continued.

Reset VMVI as recommended and flashing light stopped but interrupted dial tone remained.

Listened to MessageBank and deleted the Message telling me “you received a call from nnnnnnnn who did not leave a message” by pressing “5.”

Dial tone reverted to normal, no flashing light.

Didn’t have to call Telstra. MessageBank remains active as backup to home phone.

Thanks to others for your help. The light was driving my wife mad.

I have done all of the above with no solution. Any other advice?

So far dialling #99# is working. No flashing light.

Just hold the FIND button on your base unit down until all phones stop beeping, about 5 seconds. That should do it!

The Uniden Dect 6.0 as capacity for both provider message bank and local answering machine to operate simulteously.

Light will flag for either or and both when message is stored.

With Telstra 101 is dialled for message bank and *99# to turn on or #99# to turn off. Messages on this service use a 5 delete.

For local answering machine, ring time can bet set locally and may be set to operate before message bank. Possible advantage it will answer locally on and machine and if phone is busy on message bank.

To operate local and machine operate cassette tape symbol button on bottom RH corner of any phone. You will immediately receive number of local messages and the local message and be able to arrow right and select 4 to delete(5 is STOP).

Once both sets of messages have been dealt with red light will go out as no more messages.

Hope this helps. Red light comes back on because you have a message somewhere.

Your answer is correct. I could only add that in my case despite my local (Uniden's own) answering system remains off some how part of one live phone conversation got recorded on it and it causes the message indicator to blink.

If you are on Telstra NBN the reason is they have put you on message service or voicemail

Phone them and cancel the service and all is good

This really drove me nuts and I could not find any correct answer....but there is always a reason so do not give up. I drove my wife nuts too but still did not give up.

Then put a different phone on the modem and no fix. So I knew where the problem lay. TELSTRA. Enjoy no red light folks

por

It's Telstra alright, but they can't seem to fix it. I've done everything suggested on this site; some stop it briefly, but then it's on again.

por

The head Telstra rep in the Melboune shop said she'd had this, told me to phone telstra, ask for "Faults" department and they'd fix it. Haven't tried yet but, hope springs eternal.

por

Hi. Already solved in over 1600 cases. If you have switched to Telstra recently the problem most likely will be the they automatically connect you to voice mail at Telstra. So ‘messages' are collected there and your on phone answer system does not get to record. Simply call Telstra and cancel voicemail and red light syndrome is fixed.

Did that and didn't work for me

Hi @ Lisa Nack,

According to the D2997 user manual there is a Find button on the base station.

Try holding that for 5 seconds with the phone in standby mode and see if the red light goes out.

at mine Uniden XDECT SSE25 there is button behind handset (when you take handset there is black button “FIND”) and press it until flashing stop ignore beeping it worked and I find it on manual https://www.manualslib.com/manual/105137...

por

This will not be effective in all cases. Particularly where your provider has placed your phone number on voicemail system which conflicts with your on-board answering machine. Then the answer is contact your provider and instruct them to switch off voicemail.

I had this problem. I have a Uniden Dect 6.0. I changed my phone service from CenturyLink to Cox Cable. After a couple of months my red lite started flashing for no apparent reason. I discovered your post about how to fix it. To make a long story short, your fix didn’t work. So I checked to see if the phone package I have with Cox contained Voice Mail - IT DOES! So I called Cox and asked them how I could see all my phone serviced options and could I disable Voice Mail is it is part of my package and they sent me to a Cox website where I was able to disable their voice mail. I noticed, before I disabled it, that I had ONE (Cox Cable) voice mail. It’s been a week since I deleted the one voice mail and disabled the Cox Cable voice mail and I haven’t had the uncontrollable blinking red lite - that I should only have if someone left a message on my Uniden recorder.

I just had this issue for 3 weeks.  FInally contacted Comcast/Xfinity and through speaking with Technical Support I was able to get it resolved.  I asked if this happens again, what do I tell the Tech Support people to get it quickly resolved so I am not on the phone troubleshooting for an hour?  They told me to tell Tech Support that they need to REMOVE SCATTER TONE  This TOTALLY FIXED IT!!! WOOO HOOO!!!!

I actually DID get it fixed by calling the phone company. After repeated attempts by their techs they sent me over to their expert who was familiar with this issue. She said that she would have to "Remove the Scatter Tone" Once she did this everything was working perfectly!!!! If you have this issue, tell the technicians to REMOVE SCATTER TONE and that is what fixes it.

por

Well the flashing light is on my phone and not on the base. No, What worked was to Call Shaw and ask Them to stop their voicemail. It happened every time someone made a text to landline, then their voicemail was interfering with the voicemail built into the base. Once Shaw stopped theirs or delayed it, so it didn’t start before my own voicemail, then the flashing light stopped + people actually heard my message about leaving their name and phone number in case I wasn’t home.

So that is a solution that works and it might be the same as JoDell is referring to.

Kind regards

In very many cases the problem is voice mail. Call your phone company and cancel voice mail to enable your answer system to work. Then red light stops unless you have a message

I did, but it hasn't helped.

por

Actually all you need to do is phone your provider (Telstra?) And request they switch off voce mail. Then you flashing friend should be gone.

por

I've done that - light's flashing still.

por

Frequently the reason is your provider has automatically put you on to voice mail which conflicts with your on-phone answering machine.

Contact your provider and tell them to cancel voice mail.

This corrects red flasher in very many cases

por

Not for me, Uniden SSe45.

I tried all of the above methods too.Telstra even disconnected their “101” message bank. All to no avail. Somewhere in the system the “stutter” tone has to be changed back to the standard dial tone. They should be able to do this easily. This happened to me after being connected to the NBN via the FTTN method which is a box in the street belonging to the NBN. Before the NBN changeover I had the normal dial tone and the phone worked perfectly. But after changing to the NBN the stutter dial tone was there and the constantly flashing red light. I’ll keep asking Telstra to fix it. Soon, I hope.

I've just found out how to fix my particular problem with the flashing red voice-mail light. I had to get into Telstra voice mail by dialling 125101 and then follow the instructions to set it up. After completing that you then listen to any messages on this sytem and delete each one as necessary. After that you should hear the normal dial tone, as I did, and the red light no longer flashes as soon as you reset the VMWI in global setup in the phone itself. That's what I did and I got my normal dial tone back and the red light no longer flashes. It will come back on but you must then get back into Telstra voice mail and clear the messages. A slight inconvenience but it largely solves the problem. I hope this helps someone.

por

So it turns out that it was not a problem or a malfunction at all. I was malfunctioning if anything. The flashing red light is actually a brilliant idea from the phone designers. It simply means that there is a message or messages either stored in the exchange or in the phones built-in message bank. All you have to do is clear the messages and you're right to go. The only niggle is that you will have to turn off the light manually when you have cleared any messages stored in the exchange. The phone will only reset the light for messages read in it's own internal message bank, not in Telstras. So that's it. I'm happy now and I once again hope that this has helped someone.

por

Similar problem to that reported by many others. Telstra NBN connected today while I was at work, so phone at home was out of service until I plugged it into router. While the phone was unavailable someone left a message (which was saved onto new Telstra mailbox rather than actually on my home phone. So when I connected phone to router it was showing a message had been left (flashing light) that could not be deleted. Went into Telstra message bank (101) and deleted message which fixed problem. Thanks all contributors!

My solution was to listen to messages from the base unit instead of the handset. I had deleted messages from the handset which was telling me no messages, but when I hit play on the base unti it said I had new messages, played them, then the light went out.

If you are on the NBN dial #99# and this will turn off message bank at Telstra. The problem seems to stem from the systems inability to handle “hang up” messages saying that someone called you but did not leave a message.

After connecting to the NBN with Telstra we had static noise issues with old old home phone which we think was being caused by it now being plugged into the Telstra Smart Modem. So we purchased a new Uniden DECT 1730 series phone. We chose this phone because it has a base that plugs into the modem and handsets (2) than could be placed conveniently in the house. We didn’t want a phone at the base because the modem it is plugged into is in an inconvenient place. The new phones work fine.

Shortly after installing and playing around with the phone we noticed that the red charging light on the phone was flashing. The manual says that this means you have a message on the system. We had set up the answering machine, however, there were no messages. So back to the manual to find that we could reset the VMWI (visual message waiting indicator) - page 11. This did stop the light blinking for a while (it is normally steady red indicating charging). however, some time later it starts blinking again. W did this several times - same result. This was an issue as we could not tell if we really had a message as it was always blinking. Very disappointed

After a bit more digging I found the problem. It was this:

On connecting to the NBN we were also connect to Telstra MessageBank automatically.

Our old phone could not use this facility - so didn’t realise it was live.

When we were having an initial play with the new phone we must have reached MessageBank on two occasions.

So, despite resetting the VMWI several times, MessageBank was refreshing the message indicator.

The Fix:

Enter messageBank - dial 101. As this was our first visit we had to go through the setup.

Delete all messages - in our case we had two created when fiddling with the phone initially.

On our phone dial #99# to turn off Messagebank. (N.B. *99# turns it back on if needed later).

We reset VMWI - problem solved.

We have left messageBank off as we decided to use the answering machine on the phone. The light now only blinks when we have a message on our answering machine. There was nothing wrong with the phone - only the operators!

In my case nothing described above has helped. What happened in my case: despite Uniden own answering system was turned Off all the time somehow part of the one of the live phone call/conversation has recorded on Uniden's own answering system. And even Uniden's own answering system was still off there's was one recorded message. I only was able to see it after turning that system on and only after its own greeting message has played I was able to see there is "1" blinking meaning there's one new message. Only after deleting it on Uniden's own answering system the blinking indicator on all handsets has stopped. After that I turned Uniden's own answering system off again.
