Dualshock 2 controller not working/answering.

The controller is not working for some strange reason.

I have dissembled the controller and cleaned it from the inside then putting it back together.

The controller responds only when you press the analog button and it thinks you`re pressing X.

I think the wires are broken, so is there any way you can test do they work?

I have tried the controller both on PS1 and PS2.

I have tried another controller which work on both consoles.

I have tried looking faults in the wiring.

I really don`t know what to do anymore, so I would be more than happy if someone would shed some light on the subject.
